1. Well from your description, it does sound like the body is decent. '71 Buick A-bodies aren't as popular as previous years, and the 350 isn't that desirable of a motor (compared to 455).
You could probably get away with $1000, but it'll be tough. If you look at the market for these bodies, most people would rather get a stripped, not running 71 Gran Sport, instead of a Skylark, because they are worth much more.
If you spent a little money fixing up the body; maybe taking out dents, rust, and then primer it, you could probably sell easily for $1500.
Anyways, this is just my opinion. Ask around, go to your local Buick chapter, and go to eBay. See how much similar cars are selling for and base your price on that. Good luck.
 2. I agree with you Dave Moon. I think Buick needs to take the same direction as all other "luxury" manufacturers.
Here is what I think Buick should have.
1) Full size luxury sedan: Maybe a Park Ave or the La Crosse. Something to compete with the BMW 7 Series, Chrysler Concorde, etc.
- RWD
- V8 350hp
- Dual Exhaust option
- 4spd auto / 5spd manual
2) Mid size luxury sedan: Maybe a Century or a new name. To compete with BMW 5 Series, Benz E-class, Chrysler 300M, Audi A6.
- RWD
- V8 350hp, V6 250hp
- Dual Exhaust option
- 4spd auto / 5spd manual
3) Compact luxury sport sedan: Maybe an updated Regal. To compete with BMW 3 Series, Benz C-class, Audi S4.
- RWD
- V8 350hp
- Factory Duals
- 5spd only
4) Compact convertible: The Bengal. To compete with Z3, SLK, TT, etc.
- RWD
- V6 250hp
- Factory Duals
- 4spd auto / 5spd manual
5) Two seat American roadster: The Blackhawk. To compete in a class by itself.
- RWD
- V8 500hp
- Duals
- 4spd auto / 5spd manual
6) A true American classic convertible. Something along the lines of a 60s Electra 225. Big luxury car with all the power to go with it.
- Specs matching the Bengal and Blackhawk.
With these five cars and many high performance options, Buick could easily clean house. Think of the possibilities! Along with these cars, Buick could return to racing Daytona with the Century or Regal. They could even run LeMans!
I know there is no way this would happen, but oh well. It's fun to dream.
 3. Doesn't sound like much. What size engine does it have? What type of tranny? Any rust?
If its in pretty bad shape, which it sounds like, I don't think anyone would buy it for more than $500, but that's just my opinion.
 4. Yesterday on Motor Week, they showed the Bengal and said rumors are circulating that the car will hit production. Isn't this great news!
I know some people don't like this car for many reasons, (e.g. FWD, funky head lights) but I for one think it would be a great step for Buick into the younger crowd. With Tiger as the spokesperson, it seems like it would be a hit!
If built, the Bengal could literally turn the image of Buick from "grandma's car" to "high performance luxury" like it was back in the days of yore. With the support of a younger market, Buick may even build enough courage to develop some V8 RWD platforms like the Blackhawk.
For years, we have sat and sulked at the loss of two door Buick convertibles. Well here's our chance to cheer up and be happy once again.
Write to Buick and encourage them to build the Bengal. Keep your fingers crossed!
 5. The Regal GS is an awesome car. My first experience seeing one up close was at the GM sponsored "Test Track" ride in Epcot Center.
I am 20 yrs old and can no way afford it, but I would definitely buy that car in a flash, if given the opportunity. With estimated 0-60 times of under 6 seconds, you could easily put all those Japanese imports to shame.
I just hope Buick realizes that they NEED to adapt to the younger buyers like they did in the good ol' days. I'm still crossing my fingers at the slight chance of seeing the new GNX become an option in 2002.
Imagine; 300hp, hood scoops, side vents, and triple exhaust tips! Ahh, I can smell the burnt rubber already...too bad it ain't coming from the rear wheels.
 6. Hey at least if you owned a redezvous, you could brag that it ran 11's!
 7. Actually, after I posted my message, I checked out the catalog and they are made by comp cams and sell for $67. Yeah I agree though, some of the Summit Brand stuff seems pretty cheap quality. I wouldn't buy their brand unless that was all you could find.
 8. Rod Warrior,
Thanks for the suggestions. I will be upgrading to HEI and headers/2.5in exhaust in the near future. However, right now, I have a bad lifter, so I figure, why not just change them all as well as the cam? At least that way, I can kill 2 birds with one stone.
As for the 4bbl, I have had no luck yet of finding one for a decent priced. But believe me, I am looking!
 9. Hey, we might have the same problem here Kid. My 65 Skylark has a knock and I am sure its a lifter. I too am planning to change cam and lifeters.
Check out the postons catalog. They make a hi-rev lifter set for around $100 and they also have some street cams for $140. At the moment, that is what I plan to use because I really havent gotten any comments or suggestions otherwise.
I also saw some lifters in the Summit catalog for our 300. Isn't that crazy! I have NEVER seen parts for this engine in there before.
Anyways, keep looking and asking... I will be doing the same.
 10. Well like I said, the car is stock right now.
Has the 2bbl, but is ready for the 4bbl (650-700cfm).
Weight is stock at around 3800lbs.
ST-300 Trans. Probably gonna keep stock for now.
Compression will also remain stock for now at 9.0:1.
Heads are not ported..yet.
So basically Im looking for a nice street cam that I can use, while I build up the engine. Any suggestions?
 11. Thanks for the advice. The engine knocks at idle and also when accelerating. Sometimes it goes away, and other times it's constant. It sounds like its coming from the top of the engine.
I did discovered a broken spark plug wire, but after changing it, it still knocks.
 12. I have a 65 Skylark with a 300-2. I just bought the car and it makes a knocking sound. Sometimes its loud and other times, it goes away. I think it might be a lifter or a valve, but I am not sure.
Can anybody help me?
 13. Hey guys, looking for a nice cam and lifters for my 65 Skylark 300. I know postons has some, but was wondering if you could give me some suggestions on what works best.
The engine is stock right now, but will be upgrading slowly for a nice street ride.
Thanks!
 14. Do you have a cast iron 4bb intake for a 300?
Also looking for the stock carter carb, linkage, and air cleaner
 15. I wanna go. Probably could only make the last 3 days since I live in CA. Are you allowed to "hitch" on right at the end?
 16. Looking for a good 300-4 intake for my 65 Skylark. Email me a sagtrio@music.com
 17. Is the intake still for sale? I need a 65 300-4 intake. Email me at sagtrio@music.com
 18. Does anyone know where to find intakes for the 300? Right now it has a 2bb, but I want to upgrade to 4bb or dual 4bb.
Does the dual setup from a 401 fit?
Any aftermarket choices out there?
 19. Sorry, my mistake!
What appeared to be a "W" was actually "VV".
So the color is shell beige. Thanks for helping though.
But on the discussion of paint, how do I go about finding the shell beige color to repaint it?
 20. Does anyone know what the 65 Paint Code "W" stands for?

 21. Wildcat65, Im just curious...is your car lowered any or is it stock?
 22. Thanks guys for the help. The distributor IS in the front so it probably is a 300. The owner is an old man, so he probably mistakenly thought it was a 322. Just to make sure, I will check for the proper code.
Thanks again for the info. I will probably buy the car now.
 23. Hello,
Please help me if you can. Here is my situation...
Today, I came across a 65 Skylark HT (VIN 444375H129296) in #3 condition for a great price. Everything looks good, but there's one problem; I am not certain if its the original engine.
The owner said he installed a new water pump which was for a 322, and I know that a 322 wasn't available for this year. I can't seem to locate an engine code, so I can't figure out what it is.
Here is what I do know...
On the rear of the block (behind the intake manifold) it is stamped "GM 2", has a big "B", and "B7657943".
Also, in the engine compartment above where would be a brake master cylinder, it says "ST44437" "FB34454".
Does anyone know what this stands for? I could use ANY help on how to identify a
300-2 and a 322-2. Please post if you can help me. I really appreciate it. Thanks.
Phil
