  1. Some cars are on the field at 7:00 am or earlier on show day and the judges may not start until 10:00. People at the large shows like Hershey are walking around between dawn and when the judges start so how would get them to leave the show field with out making them real upset? It is not practical or fair to the spectators we are trying to recruit into the AACA.

  2. From the Encyclopedia of American Cars it does not give a break out per model however it states the following:<P>6DA DeLuxe Six (wb 117.0) 77,713 units which includes coupe 2P, Spt coupe, cabriolet 2-4P, sedan 2D, touring sedan 2D T/B, sedan 4D, touring sedan 4D T/B, conv sedan 5P and wagon 4D. <P><BR>8DA DeLuxe Eight (wb 122) 19,426 units which includes all od the models above except the wagon.<P>This book starts to break out the units per model in 1955. Pontiac may not have the units made per model however you can try <A HREF="http://www.poci.org" TARGET=_blank>www.poci.org</A> or Pontiac Historical Services at <A HREF="http://www.phs-online.com" TARGET=_blank>www.phs-online.com</A> <BR>

  3. I drive my car to Hershey every year. You would be amazed at how many cars you see in the morning driving down to the show. I got my senior at Hershey so driving and getting a award is possible. Hershey is not that far for me however going to a show 8 hours away is another story in todays world.

  4. How does that old saying go "To each there own." Thank god not all people think the same what a boring world it would become. Building a trailer queen not only takes a lot of hard earned money but many hours of hard (and fun most of the time) labor. You only have a short time to enjoy the car in this state as the restoration slowly starts to deteriorate. The awards are nice and make you feel all the effort was worth it but meeting the people in the hobby is what it is all about, and having some fun. To meet your friends you have made in the hobby and to make new ones requires you to get out of the same old local show circuit and travel to shows that are not feasible to drive the car you just worked on for 4 years. Depending on where you live most modern drivers would just as soon run you off the road because you can not run at 70. I was at the POCI National Convention in 99 when somebody keyed the side of a beautiful Oakland during the night. Hard to believe they even had security guards? I do believe in driving your trailer queen but in todays world it is a roll of the dice at best sometimes. Off to Pep Boy's as someone stole my spare tire cover from my daily driver last night as it sat out in front of my house. It is even a good neighborhood.

  5. The site work has started however the underground site lighting and electric and telephone duct banks are going out for bid soon. There are major changes planned including new roadways and traffic patterns into the parking lots. There will also be a new tram road with a station and restrooms. New pole lighting will replace all the existing fixtures. I would not expect much if any paving until the spring.

  6. The company I work for is somewhat involved in the new stadium project. I was told this week that by next year (summer) the field will be paved. Paving plants shut down for the winter here in the north so I would guess that they will start in spring.

  7. My car has also been nominated for a National Award. Thanks for all the information Ron Barn. If I understand your comments correctly the car is nominated for a specific award only (?) with some awards only having one winner like the Ford Award, Annual Grand National Award, etc. and others having more then one winner with the different divisions? Thanks!

  8. You are not the only who appears to have not made Hershey this year. There were a lot of people at Hershey but it did not seem to be as crowded this year. The car show also had a fair amount of empty spaces as compared to previous years. There were 14 empty spaces across from my class so after judging I move my car. The cars were parked so tight I had to leave my wife out before I backed into my space because I could not get the doors open. Fall Carlisle was also empty this year in regards to the amount of people that were there. I guess it is much eaiser to buy car parts off the internet.

  9. Get a dealer album or accessory booklet to look up all the items in question. Keep in mind that the album and booklet were printed in 1952 and may not have all factory accessories and options listed. My 55 Pontiac has 50 out of a possible 62 factory accessories and options. To find and document them all I had to get the dealer album, accessory booklet, and a copy of the factory accessory list including prices that was available at the dealer. This list was printed 3 to 4 times a year to add all accessories and options that are added during production and some may even be common for the following production year. It sometimes will take 3 different factory documents to verify all items. Check with a Ford club, AACA library, etc.

  10. I was at summer Carlisle a few weeks ago and saw a vendor that had many differant reproduction gas tanks for many years and makes. The prices were not out of line and they looked like stock. I did not get his name but I am sure he advertises in various magazines. By the time you mess around with your old one it would be cheaper and better to buy a replacement! I have a 55 Pontiac and he had a replacement for it so you should not have a problem.

  11. I am not a AACA judge but if you read the judging manual it tells you that you need to stay with or have someone be there in case the judges do come back. AS you were there to see that sometimes they do return. Sometimes AACA judges (not the meet judges)will go around looking a cars for a special award that is given out at the annual meeting. I was at the Grand Nationals and did witness various judges doing this around 1:30. You maybe able to get a copy of your score sheet that will not give you the point deductions but will referance the areas that need to be corrected. I did this after my car did not get its senior at Salisbury in 98 and it helped as I did get my senior at Hershey in 98 and my Grand National in Montoursville. AACA judging is not perfect but it is by far the best out there.

  12. Thanks for the info. I have talked to some other people and all agree it is black. I know a guy from the Hershey area that has one, (Ken George) who lives about a 1/2 mile from me. I live in Camp Hill. I am getting my car ready for the Grand National and just wanted to be sure. Thanks

  13. I have a 55 Pontiac and was wondering what is the correct color of the drive shaft. It is currently black and Eastwood tells me it should be black. It is hard to believe the factory would take the time and money to paint this. I have it out to replace the front seal and want to redo it while it is out. Thanks! RG<BR>

  14. Bill, They are only original once! The HPOF class gets a lot of attention at the shows as I witnessed at the recent National Spring Winchester Meet. I recently talked a good friend of mine from restoring his latest one owner cars he purchased which include a 57 Ford Fairlane 2 door (9,200 miles), 54 Packard 2 door (41,000 miles), 68 Buick 2 door (22,000 miles) and a 67 Mercury Comet 2 door (11,200 miles). These cars still have their 1st 1000 mile check up stickers on the door. As I told him these are your future HPOF cars.

  15. I have a copy of the Factory 1955 Pontiac Package Accessory Price List (2nd addition 02/01/55) which states "Dealer Confidential". This gives the group #, part #, code, dealer net price, suggested price, model # and all years prior to 1955 the accessories will fit. This list has 2 differant types of undercoating with one being a water base type. Under the code for these which is a AFS it states "order from Accessory Sales Department". It does not state where the undercoating was installed, however my guess (and only a guess) it was installed at the dealer and is a Factory Accessory bought from the factory the same as a compass, spotlight, etc. which does not result in point deductions for these type of accessories? My car chassis only had a 1 point deduction at the POCI National Convention so it is not to hogged up. POCI rules are similiar to AACA and I am sure each judge has a differant opinion on this. If my car is going to get a lot of points deducted for undercoating I would like to go to the POCI National Convention 2000 instead of the AACA Grand Nationals which this year are held on the same day. In my opinion the AACA has much better judging then POCI which sometimes are short on experinced judges at their National Convention however they gennerally do a good job. Thanks RG

  16. I have a 55 Pontiac which was awarded a junior at Hershey in 97 and a senior at Hershey in 98. The car has also recieved 2 POCI gold awards. The POCI gives you copies of the judging scores after the meet and the car got a 1 point deduction for excessive undercoating. I am taking the car to the Grand National Meet and was wondering how the AACA stood on how much and where not to have undercoating in regards to gas tank, rear axle, brake cables, wheel wells, bolt heads, etc. I have documention that Pontiac dealers did install undercoating but who is to say how much and where and what it may have been sprayed on. I am sure that back then as is today they were not to careful. Any help will be appreciated!
