  1. I guess I didn't ask the question correctly to elicit the answer I was wanting. The question about the size was for the bowls only, not the pipe thread. I have five glass fuel filter bowls only, not the housings they fit onto. The outside diameter of the bowls follows: 2 1/16th (three of these all the same), another that's 2 1/16th but has little ridges and valleys made into the sealing edge (this one came off my '49 Buick Super and has a small chip), fifth bowl is new in the box Buick part, 2 inch outside diameter at the open part of the bowl with threads so it would screw into the metal housing. Hope this helps.

  2. This question has I’m sure a simple answer but its important to me and I’ll explain why. I’m going to remove a few parts from a ‘46 Lincoln in a closed junkyard later this month. The car belonged to a close relative and its too far gone to restore. One of the things I want to remove is the ignition key from the switch. When I was there in January it was stuck in the straight up-and-down position and I couldn’t budge it. I’m pretty sure the key has to be turned one way or the other, left or right, to be removed. The question is which way and how much turn,. i.e., ¼, ½ or a full 360-degree turn to possibly remove it? Also, will I have to pull out or push in the ignition switch on the dash to enable the key to turn first? Keep in mind this car has been in the same junkyard for 40-plus years. I’m going to take some spray lubricant with me when I go and hopefully won’t break off the key. I know nothing about these cars so be detailed and descriptive with your answer please and Thanks for your help! Steve

  3. Fellow ROA members,

I'm about to buy four of the repro floor pan pieces from Classic Fabrication which on the net shows it being in Surfside, SC. Apparently the son of the owner has taken over some of this business and his business is called Extreme Metal Works, Wilmington, MA. I've never dealt with either of these organizations and am asking for your input and experiences with them. Are the parts as you expected, i.e., quality? Were they upfront and fair to deal with? Were shipments packed well, etc., etc. Any experiences you've had is certainly appreciated before I mail off the money. These are for my '65 Riv. Thanks much! Steve #1023

  4. I need to know where to look for the vehicle serial number on a 1946 Lincoln four-door sedan. It's not a Continental. This is a car in a junkyard that I strongly feel maybe a family car but I can't prove it. The car is sunk down in the ground so I can't look under it. There is no plate on the firewall. It's gone. Please be very specific about where to look. Thanks in advance for your help. Steve

  5. LCD - The grill bar I have has part number 1346801 on the back which is supposed to be for a 50 or 70 series, Super or Roadmaster. It is used, has some scuff marks and scrapes, no cracks or breaks in the metal and some light blistering on the driver's side. It will need to be rechromed to be show quality. Also have a diecast piece that is an extension piece that goes on one end of the grill bar. Not sure which end it goes on but can check if you're interested. $300 money order plus shipping for the grill bar only.

  6. I have what I believe is a 1953 upper grill bar but I'm not sure what series its for. I can check the part number on the back or can you give me dimensions? It's a good used part although I haven't looked at it lately accurately to judge its condition. Thanks.

  7. Attached are two photos of a unique looking floor jack I discovered recently. I like old mechanical type floor jacks and own two old Walker brands. I looked this one over and didn't see a brand. It sits on three casters, has a hand-crank and the two lifts are connected by a shaft as you can see. I'd be interested in knowing if you've seen one, had or have one like this and what brand, type and vintage it might be. I plan to acquire it if I'm able to. Thanks! Steve

  8. Gentlemen,

Today a friend and I were fortunate to be shown this early 30's Plymouth. Since then I've been searching the internet trying to nail down exactly what year and model it actually is without success. The roadsters of this era I have seen photos of don't have the quarter windows this car does.

If anyone can help I'd appreciate knowing. Looking forward to your answers. Thanks much!

  9. Brian, these signs are really cool. They would go great with my Lubricare sign. I'd like to sign up for a V8 sign like yours and a Dynaflow sign if/when they're made. I'll be flying to Seattle so won't be able to take one on the plane with me. I'll try to remember to look back at this thread but sometimes I forget. See you in July. Steve

  10. Well MrEARL I'm happy and proud that you like this photo as its one of MY favorites simply because I wrote the story of Keller Motor Co, Fayette, MO back in the Dec 1999 Bugle. It was one of the highlights of my BUICK hobby. It's fortunate I did write that story because now the only daughter of the Keller's, Mrs Ann Keller Slagle passed away about a year ago. I still miss her. She was quite a spunky lady and being from the country she told-it-like-it-is. Steve (sent you the 54 items a few months back)

  11. DRAGNRIK, CENTURIAN and others,

I live in KCMO which is just a stone's throw from the Fairfax, KS former and present plants. I know the topic of Fairfax has come up before because I posted some sort of reply at that time as well. The present plant does have quite a few historical photos and memorabilia from the old plant because I've seen some of it at a plant tour in the last couple years. There was also a GM promotional tour under a tent west of Downtown KCMO last summer which had some real neat photos. On the flip side of the coin (just my opinion), the new plant had a production number milestone celebration of some sort in 2005. I don't recall what the exact milestone was. I tried and tried to get info on it and asked if they would like vintage GM cars displayed for their celebration. After many emails and calls back and forth, miscommunication, etc. we ended up with two measley cars there. My '65 Wildcat sport coupe which was built there and a friends '53 Olds 88 Holiday. A few other 80s and 90's cars were displayed that belonged to plant employees. All in all it was a pretty disappointing display. It certainly could have been a lot better had they put their minds to it and promoted it better. As for the old plant site which is just around the corner from the present plant, I have no idea who owns it. Maybe you do DRAGNRIK. There are so many old car events to attend in the warm months I personally wouldn't bother with a gathering of this type. If you do have it I will join in though. My '65 LeSabre Sedan also was built there. Yes, they made Aircraft there during the war, again alongside 46 GM cars and again during the Korean war. The plant has (or had) some pretty interesting history. If I can find some of the photos I took of the photos GM displayed at their "road tour" which was here last Summer I will post them. Good luck. Steve
