  1. According to parts book the 1954 - 55 gas tank fits the 40-6-100 cars, 50-70- series had a different part number. It could be that the 50-70 had a larger tank capicity. easiest way is to check owners manual, usually has listing capacities.

  3. Have you checked the bottom of the intake manifold. For years the intake had a freeze plug at center of intake. over the years this plug would rot away, causing an exhaust leak, and some fumes. Try to get a hand under the intake and feel around for a freeze plug about 2 1/2 in diam. if you can reach and feel a rusty hole this may be your problem.

  4. If you don't have one yet, GET a shop manual, there is also a body manual. There are always several on E-BAy.

Read and learn about the car , then you can tackle anything. Any large auto chain will have tools to remove the door and window handles, Gm vehicles from the 40s through the 70s used the same tool.

If you have a Special you will have a 264 CI motor, if motor is bad look for a 322 block, more cubes make more speed.

I have a 54 Century HT, with a factory 3 speed. Needs a lot of work too.

Don't be afraid to ask questions on this board, a lot of dummies started here.

    Good luck

  5. I first saw this car in a Buick delership in N.W Chicago. somewhere in the early 60's. I was a mess, local mechanics were trying to fix power windows, splicing wiring harnesses, headliner hanging down, at that time would consider about a # 5 car. Dealer knew that is was a special built car.

Didn't have near enough dollars to purchase.

  6. Up in Northern Il. there is two barns with over 20 some cars stored in them . The owner Died and his widow won't give them up. She owes back taxes and the state or county may confiscate all. A local auctioner has been trying to get the listing for all the cars, but is having a lot of trouble. I know that there is a 54 Skylark Convt in group, and another barn filled with car parts. Told most were from the 30's through the 50's.

If imformation is releases I will post it here.

  7. In a short answer NO.

Quite a bit difference between both.

The 39 bumpers had a ridge at top side of bumper, where the 40 bumpers are a smooth.

If you are refering to the 39-40 Bumpers and bumper guards on e-bay, a couple of the guards are 39, the large front center guard is a 40. If you look closely at the side view of the smaller guards you can see a difference. Seller dosent seem to know what year parts are from, He told me all parts were from a 39.

    Good old e-bay "buyer beware".

    Good luck

  8. Rob from Wisconsin.

Is that the correct handle for the jack???

I have the same jack but the jacking handle is a solid steel flat bar, wihout any handle.

I have seen many other jacks like this one some with a car name (even Yello Cab)

but very few have had handles.

    Hi Joe

I remember seeing one of these Futureliners in a junk yard, in the Grand Rapids Mi. about 35 years ago. It was massive. It could have been purchase very reasonaable. But to have it towed home to chicago would have been outrageous, then finding some where to store it.

    Great project for a group.
