Good Morning, I have a hole in my carburetor and it is leaking gas. This may be able to be patched, but I believe it may be time for a replacement. I have had some help from a few members of this group already, but wanted to see if anyone has found a good replacement for the Stromberg OX-2? Is there an option from Zenith that would work? Any insight and direction would be appreciated. Jeff

@Stude Light I may just get 4 larger tires and test one in the side mount before I buy six of them. Thank you!

@Mark HustonThank you for the photos. That looks like something I could do. Here is my next question, what about those (are they copper?) tubes that run to and from the filter? I assume I will need to get new ones. Where can I find those and are they easy to work with? Thank you again! Also. have you ever taken off your oil pan? I would like to do that to mine and make sure all of the sludge is cleaned out. My concern is the gasket and finding a replacement. What is your advice for that?

Thank you! This is good information.

My 1930 currently has 475/500-19 tires on it. After a visit to the Studebaker Museum last weekend, all of the vehicles similar to mine had wider/larger tires on them. After visiting the Coker Tire website, it recommended 550-19 tires.I don't know how old the current tires are on my car, but they probably need to be replaced. Should I put on the recommended 550-19 tires or stick with what is on it currently? I will also need tubes. They are sold at Coker as well.My last question is about Flaps and Rim Strips. What are they and do I need them if I change the tires?Thank you!

I had great luck with SGT Auto Transport. They hauled my 1930 Studebaker from West Virginia to Indiana. I was very pleased. Jeff

1930 Studebaker Commander 8 Oil Capacity and Filter
RowdyRuggles replied to RowdyRuggles's topic in Technical
Thank you! -
I want to change the oil in my 1930 Studebaker Commander 8. Does anyone know how many quarts it requires? I even have the car manual and it talks about changing oil, but doesn't give the capacity. Also, I am sure I won't be able to find an oil filter, what should I do about that? Lastly, what is the best type of oil for that car. I have attached a photo to see the oil filter. Thank you!

Thank you all! It is probably missing a wire. I will open up the horn and take a look. Jeff

The horn on my Studebaker is unhooked. I would like to hook it back up, but I am only seeing one wire coming out of it. Also, the horn button on the steering wheel, seems to not have any spring anymore. When I press on it, it doesn't spring back up. That is probably the reason it was unhooked. Does anyone have any insight on how I can get this back in working order? Thank you!

@13Caddy2 Yes. I have checked it. Do you have any idea where to add new oil when I change it? My wife's grandpa always did this and was never able to watch him do it. Thanks, Jeff

Thank you everyone. I will check out all of this. Also @Gary_Ash thank you for the photos/diagrams. Jeff

Yes, that has to be the oil pan. I may need to take those covers off to see where the leak is coming from.

Thank you Bloo. I will check that out.

I have got a coolant leak on my 1930 Studebaker Commander 8. I took a photo underneath the engine that I have attached. It appears the leak is coming from the area were that line of nuts is located. Isn't that the oil pan? I suppose it could be oil, but looks greenish, like coolant. Does anyone have experience with sealing this or what needs to be done?
