  1. Sorry about the absence from this post.  I had a few life events to take place after my last post.  Thanks so much for all of your assistance with this and other things pertaining to the 55 Special.

I did not drop the oil pan.  I actually conducted what is called a "hot oil" change, and I did it a couple of times within 2 months of each other.  Those actions, along with using a heavier grade oil eliminated my lifter noise. I have no idea which action was most effective!  The lifters now only tap a few seconds after the engine starts now, and I view that as a success!  I learned about hot oil changes during my years of construction.  One of the master mechanics insisted that all oil changes on heavy equipment be conducted with the machine as hot as possible when the oil is dropped.  His theory is that much of the sledge and buildups are more prone to be released if everything is hot.  I know that I might eventually have to drop the pan for cleaning, but for now, it runs great.  Thanks again.

  2. Hi; I am searching for the little clips that hold the chrome trim in place under the rear glass of a 1955 Buick Special.  It might be called beltline molding.  I have tried several companies but nothing yet.  I am attaching a couple of photos.  Hopefully someone can assist me here.  I read another post where someone used the metal door clips and fabricated them a bit but they worked.  Does anyone know what door clips they are referring to?

  3. Me again!  I am still trying to keep this old Buick original by either repairing or replacing badly worn out items.  I am hoping that someone could give me a lead on how to purchase the rope on the rear of the front seats.  Also, if anyone has any information on how the rope is secured inside the housings!  I searched online and all I could locate was the actual chrome housings, which I do not need.  I think the chrome will clean up to an acceptable outcome. I included one photo of the seat back, and another photo of the 55 that was taken with our Cherry Blossom blooms in my driveway on Saturday.

I also want to thank all of the people that has been assisting me with working on the old Buick.  I wish to be able to return the assistance but I don't have enough experience with the old car yet to be able to offer assistance.

  4. Thanks everyone for your suggestions.  I actually found a replacement that seems to be in good condition for less than 30 bucks.  My theory is that the plastic sort of helped lengthen the life of the metal, and the plastic was not placed back on the ring after maintenance, or this actual horn ring is a replacement that was sold without the plastic.  I think that over time, the metal against metal wore it out.

  5. Well, I received the parts for the horn assembly but ran into another unseen issue.  Even with the adjustment all of the way down, the horn button will not stay on the wheel.  Upon close inspection I noticed that there is a metal lip at the bottom of the horn button that extends outside of the casing.  The photo of my existing horn button displays that the metal lip has worn away.  I suspect that this is the reason that the button will not stay on the wheel.  It actually does stay on the wheel but the slightest movement brings it off.  In my opinion, that metal lip is what actually keep the button on the wheel.

The second photo displays a horn button that I saw on Ebay.  This button has a piece of plastic that goes around the protruded lip.  Does anyone have any ideas how I could proceed without purchasing an entire horn button?  I am thinking I might be able to fabricate a piece of hard plastic to serve as a washer.  Yet, since the lip has worn down so much, the plastic might not be enough.  Ideas are appreciated!
