  1. 5 years later this post is going to help me a LOT as I want/need to remove and re-chrome the eyeballs on my '63 Electra. Thank you !
  2. Hello again I have one additional question. Once I've identified the paint codes is there a recommended vendor ? I'm initially interested in interior paints as I have some areas to touch up. After searching I was unable to find a color chart or other info for the interior colors and also couldn't find vendors offering any cross reference for those interior colors. Any pointers? Thanks
  3. Thanks everyone, for the comprehensive information. I'm going to need it soon. I'll also be posting a question later about how to get the original fabric colors for covering door panels if such a product is still available. Thanks again
  4. Ok thanks Joe! I was thinking the CC was short for color code and should be followed by a number. Ha ha. Make sense now thanks Any idea how I find and match the dash colors?
  5. Hello I'm the new owner of a 1963 Buick Electra. I'm trying to determine the paint color of the body and interior but the info nameplate-see photo - does not seem to have a paint color code. The car is a white color body and the interior is - light metallic blue on the underneath of the dash - darker shade of blue on the top of the dash - light gray-blue carpet -light blue seats I want to touch up or re paint the dash areas due to scratches and chipping and eventually repaint the car with the same (original?) white so I'm particularly interested to match the body and dash paint colors Any info or pointers appreciated! Mark
  6. Thanks for the figurs rocketraider Nice to know the production numbers of each. Interesting. The 6 window hardtop was news to me
  7. Thanks. I plan to sort out an issue with the brake lamp circuit and then attack the AC system before summer kicks in. After that it'll be taking care of the rust spots and the chrome followed by the interior. The door panels need re-covering and perhaps the seats. Head liner is in good condition. Should keep me out of mischief for a while. Ha ha
  8. A couple of pics of the whole car at this link in case you're interested https://forums.aaca.org/topic/378827-1963-electra-225-sedan
  9. Thanks Bob. Appreciate your help and patience
  10. Oh. Duh. The penny just dropped....what I thought was just an elbow in front of the carb is actually a tee which is tapped into the intake manifold. So the hose that is connected to that tee and is currently plugged is not required for the brake circuit. It must have served another purpose...perhaps for the AC or auxiliary system. Thanks for the replies. Shame I didn't figure it out earlier. At least it helped me to get to know my engine bay ...
  11. Thanks Bob. Yeah I'm coming to the conclusion that there is a vacuum port missing. I know the previous owner also rebuilt or exchanged the carb so perhaps the replacement is missing a port or there was a tee at the back where the brass elbow is right now. The only vacuum connections I see are the vacuum advance for distributor and that brass elbow on the back which is connected via a hose to the valve cover - I assume for emissions/scavenging. Looks like there could be a check valve fitted into the top of the valve cover where the hose connects (see pic). I believe the brake vacuum line should also have a check valve in it ?
  12. Thanks TexRiv. I can see what appears to be a tee or straight fitting in front of the carb. I see what seems to be a 1-2" solid nipple connected to that silver colored fitting on the left side of the pic but can't tell if there's anything connected to it PS. One day my engine bay will be clean like yours !
  13. Here's the pic of mine There is a connection on the rear (second pic) but that's connected to a hose that runs to the valve cover
  14. Thanks Bob. I'll post a pic within the hour
  15. Thanks The whole Sedan v Hardtop seems to be confusing for some according to the forum posts I've seen. Glad I got the right terminology. Mine has the post so it's for sure the Sedan. Nice to know it's rarer ! 🙂👍
  16. Hello I'm the new proud owner of a 63 Electra The previous owner spent money to get the brake system done but I noticed something that I need advice with. The vacuum line that runs from the top of the brake module has a tee that goes to the vacuum reservoir. The other branch goes to a hose and then to a solid line that connects to an elbow under the front of the air filter. I have the factory repair manual and the diagram goes that far but stops. So the hose attached to the elbow right now has a plug in the end and is not attached to anything. I believe it should probably connect to the intake somewhere to provide the vacuum to the brake system ? Can someone tell me where it should connect ? A photo would be great. Second question. I wonder why it was disconnected by the garage that worked on the brakes ? I just wonder if the brake cylinder assembly is not working or has a vacuum leak. It looks original...and the brakes work great ... (!?) Any advice appreciated Thanks for reading pic added
  17. Thanks for the informative reply. Off to the Buick area right now 🙂
  18. Thanks Dave. I'm referring to the heater/AC fan. My son mentioned that often the older systems did not move much air. Good to hear that you don't remember any issues. I'll get the AC looked over before changing anything out. Thanks for the comments
  19. Hey everyone. I just joined the forum as I bought a 63 Electra 225 Sedan offered to me at a price I just couldn't refuse (not sure the wife agrees 100% ha ha ) It's all original and not bad condition. Previous owner did a few mechanical jobs to get it running including new exhaust, install HEI ignition, replace alternator and replace/service all brakes, grease wheel bearings, new whitewall tires etc. It has been in CA all its life - originally built at the GM plant in South Gate, Los Angeles apparently. I have a project list in mind, starting with getting the AC running. AC was a 'must have' on any car I was looking at buying so that worked out, as it is factory fitted so the original purchaser paid for it as a factory option evidently. Apparently it worked (to some degree) when the previous owner bought it but it stopped after a few weeks. Probably needs most of the major components replaced and a leak test/charge. I've looked at Vintage Air and I plan to replace the main components 9maybe with an upgraded compressor and perhaps fan, as my son says the flow from the original fan was probably weak. If anyone has some good pointers on this I'd appreciate it. If anyone else is/has restored an Electra of the same period I'd love to get a link to the forum/thread. I did a quick search but didnt find anything specific.... I know the Electra is not as popular as the Riviera and other similar models.... I posted some pics. I'd appreciate any pointers or advice. Thanks !
