  5. Terry B, Yes I did learn a lot about the ignition system but obviously not enough! There are only a few people in B.C. that I would feel comfortable leaving my car with them for repairs. I did locate what turned out to be an expert with vintage cars wiring & mechanical. He had the car up and running in about 5 hours after I spent months trying to find the problem. Regards Bruce
  6. I have so much information from Members that has helped in trying t0 get my 47 Chrysler up and running. As iturns out after trying different member options of getting spark, without any luck I took it to a shop tha deals in Vintage car repairs. The car is now up and running after a day in the shop. As it turns out there was multiple problems, poor wiring in the distributor as well as some wires in the loom were bare and shorting out . But again I want to thank all the members for thier information and help very much appreciated. Bruce Watson
  7. I thank all those members that have given me different avenues to rsolve the poblem of NO spark. I walk away from the problem and keep trying different ideas. I connected a wire from the ignition switch to the coil, turned the key on and my meter show 6 volts at the coil but no ignition. would this indicate that the switch may be at fault?
  8. I have been working on trying to get spark on my Chrylser, I Have had many responses from members and followed up but so far no spark. One of the members had mentioned it could be the Ignition switch. I have no knowledge how to test if the switch is actually turning on the ignition. There is 6 Volts showing at the back of the switch & when I do turn the key I can push the starter button and the engine turns over. Is it possible that the switch allows the engine to turn over but does not give power to the ignition system?? I notice when I turn on the key there is zero movement on the ammeter. If I pull the light switch the ammeter moves to the discharge side, even when the starter is turning the engine over there is no movement of the ammeter. Bruce Watson

  12. Dave, You may be correct, as my thoughts are similar but the voltage is at the switch when the key is on? Thanks for your reply Bruce
  13. Joe, Thanks for your interest in my problem. Yes the starter works if you push the starter button. In checking the Ammeter with the key on it shows 5.95 Volts. I wil keep following the wiring> Regards Bruce
  14. I am getting back trying to resolve the problem of no power to the coil. Before the problems started I would turn on the ignition key and the gauges would show signs of life ( the ammeter would go back and forth. NOW when I turn on the ignition key there is no sign of life on the gauges?? I have checked the voltage at the back of the ignition key and it shows approx 5.95 volts. When I turn on the lights the Ammeter shows movement as normal. As I am about the furthest thing from an auto electrician I need help, Bruce Watson
  15. I have been working on a no spark problem for a while. Now that the garage is warmed up I am back to it. I purchased a new old disrtributor breaker plate. It appears there are two screws to take out the old one and then replace the new one. As I am not familiar with the internal working of the distributor is there any thing that I have to look for behond the re & re of the breaker plate?? As in the past thank you for your assitance Bruce Watson
