The right angle back edge gives a clue to the type of brackets I have. The 34 frame has 2, 5/8" diameter holes in the frame for the spare tire carrier which are also the holes used by the luggage rack brackets. The brackets have a post coming off them that is around 3-4 inches long which make the brackets obviously different than the 33's & 34 coupe brackets. I have both of these type of brackets that I would love to trade someone for the "post" type. Here are some photos of the spare tire mount bracket with posts & the coupe luggage rack brackets w/o posts.

Thank you, Jim. My convertible door has the same dimension.

I acquired a set of convertible window regulators that are 3-1/2" longer and I am trying to figure out what they fit. What 1934 convertible door is 3-1/2" longer?

Possibly the convertible sedan??? I know it too is on the 121" wheelbase & may be a different body structure than the Aero Brougham, which is also on the same 121" base. Both were advertised as "Special 121".  BTW, are you sure they are 34? The 35 pictured in the F.B post may be 3 1/2" longer.  Are you referring to just the regulators or the window frames? If they are regulators, they could be from a different year.

I would like to help with this discussion. I bought a pair of 1934 coupe trunk rack brackets at the Adair auction in 2020 and attached them to a spare PE sedan chassis I have out back. If you compare the rear of the sedan chassis to Tom's PE coupe chassis you can see they are essentially the same except the sedan has extensions riveted on for the longer body. Extensions on each side for the bumper attachment and a triangular piece riveted to the center for the spare tire mount.

Very interesting. I wonder how the brackets will exit the body panel. I think there are several rear body shapes for Plymouth in 34, which makes me curious where the mounting holes are for a spare tire rack. Oh, so many questions:). Good photo description Dennis.

Time to follow up on the side mount hardware bracket installation. It's taken longer to do this due to the fact that winter here limits my exposure in the garage to a few hours handling cold tools. I can hardly wait until spring!!!

Iv'e attached a few photos of the installed A-pillar hardware & look forward to getting the front fenders back on the car to complete the side mount iron installation. BTW one set of hardware is most likely left over from Al Smiths reproduction pieces as they are outstanding pieces. The other set appears to be original. Thanks again Dave for the brackets!!!!

Yeah, I know. Wrong screws used for attaching the inside bracket spacer to the firewall.:(

If the cap looks like the one on from the bottom picture, it would go to a 34. Possible 35 because I do not know what the 35 cap mounting looks like.

A ton of pictures of cars. Need pictures of cap and wheel separated. 34 looks the same. Here is a 34. They have different part #s for the cap and wheel between the 34 and 35.

A couple of 34s that we had from the past. Wheel and caps very similar to the 35.

The wheel and cap shown are a 34.

The top photo happens to be my car, 34 Brougham, (used to be Dave's AND Jacks) & I am in the process of coming up with a template as described by jpage. I've had to draw the TETRADECAGON, (14 openings) with great accuracy so the sticky back template will line up properly with the scallops. Once I successfully finish the test template, I plan on getting a print shop to make up a number of them. I figure it will be a five-step process & hope to utilize the powder coating process. Fist step will be to powder coat the color on the center section only, then apply the template, paint the rest of the wheel, back included & then have a pinstriper apply the striping & then finish the entire wheel with several clear coats. Not sure if the powder will stick to the template, which could cause a problem. I plan on doing my side mount wheels using 2 different color schemes to see which would eventually be used for the rest of the car. They are currently waiting for me to pick them up at the sandblaster/powder coating shop. I had them sandblasted & primed. I will post my results.

I took a locking 1936 Dodge Brothers hub cap to a guy in Ashland and he made a key for it. He may be able to make yours work.

I watched a YouTube video yesterday showing an experienced locksmith "impressioning" a key. After modifying a new blank & filing to fit, you take it to a locksmith to cut another blank. The key used for impressioning will have too thin a leading edge to use as the regular key. Fortunately, I have a couple of new Omega "bent key" blanks to try this method & there seem to be several blanks on eBay.

I made the mistake a month ago by "Googling" "how to key a lock with no key" & got squat. I know better than to ignore YouTube university.:) I also made the mistake of removing the lock from the cap which would not be necessary if this impressioning method works.

I'll follow up with my results.

  7. It's a real shame that we are losing these old-timers who had skill sets that aren't being replaced.

I have inspected everything about this lock, even looking for the magic pin hole to push a release button....to no avail. I think this lock was cheap enough back then to make it a one-time installation with no means of disassembly. I'm going to research a method to find out where the pins are inside the lock and if that doesn't work, I'm going to start using different size drill bits to get the cylinder out. I will post my results, success or fail.

Many thanks Scott for your reply!!!

There are 3 nut inserts in the frame that these bolt attach to....for the coupes. Bill, up in Oregon sent me a photo of his frame that showed this bracket bolt pattern. The frame cross support is bent just like the brackets. I'll see if I can dig up that photo for you.

I couldn't find the frame photo from Bill Fastenow, but if you go to Prev page 1 in this post, you will see the old add from several years ago of a rack with the sedan brackets. The single long post shows well. It has inside threads that bolts go into from the back side of the frame which are in the same locations as the bolt holes for the spare tire mount.

The 2 brackets showing is formed differently around the 3 bolt area.

would you know what goes to what?

    Thanks for your input.
