  1. I have the J2B5 Stewart carb on my 1924 Dodge Brothers Touring car.
  2. I have 2 books for the 1924 Dodge touring car. It's about the battery. One book says the positive ground runs the car. Of course there is another book i have, its the same diagram, but it shows negative ground!!!! What do I do? More research means more questions! Thank you all for your assistance so far.
  3. Thank you , I am always learning different uniqueness of these cars. I can't wait for the sound it makes once I try to figure out why it will not start.
  4. Here are some before pictures. In the pictures, the top looks great in some places, and some rips in others. The whole top was actually really brittle and every time I would move parts of the top, another piece would fall off. It was really bad. Take a look at the before pictures when I purchased it in 2021.
  5. I understand. Thank you. I have found a couple Upholstery shops that are local . What is the best way ? Showing pictures or just bring the car to them? They don't have much parking and not sure yet if they need my car there or not. I certainly will share with everyone the progress with pictures and updates when I can.
  6. Thank you for the suggestions. I will look her up on Facebook.
  7. Pictures are very helpful and would be great to receive them and when I get to my car, I could utilize them. Thank you for sharing
  8. That looks fantastic. I will indeed try to locate a shop/person to help me. Thank you for the pictures.
  9. Thank you for your input. I look back and kind of kick myself for not saving at least more of the top but I salvaged the rear window and a side piece. There was so much rot and tears and weathered that it was better to get the whole top off and fold up the top braces. I did keep the top ribbon that sits underneath the top and above the wooden frame. I will have to keep an eye open for getting that replaced. But for now, the car is hibernating so I could work on my 1957 Chevy BelAir 4dr sedan. Thank you for your help.
  10. Hi, i am about an hour west of Chicago. ,I'm sorry that I didn't include location on my question. Thank you for replying back.
  11. Hi, are there any places that can make the convertible top? The previous top and clear vinyl windows that snapped together. My top had been severely tore and chewed on by critters and didn't have much choice than to cut the top off. The straps are still intact. I saved the rear window. It would be cool to have a similar top on that used to be on the car. Please let me know where to look for my car. Thank you
  12. I have had some health issues and I put the car away in the garage for winter. Once it warms up again toward spring, I will do what I can to get it working and drivable. Thank you
  13. Sometimes looking at the location with different light sources, is how I saw my VIN on the frame. I sanded the rust very gently and got the area smooth enough, but still pitted from the rust. I used a couple different flashlights and position of the flashlights to find the sneaky numbers on my 1924 Touring. I also tried to do a pencil rub of the area, no luck. Use a LED, and/or regular light bulb drop light and/or a COBB flashlights I hope this helps a little
  14. I see a run of numbers on outside firewall passenger side. Starts with a "T" which may indicate that it is a touring car, but trying to find out what other numbers are. The complete number is T107374. Any help to decode this run of numbers would be interesting. Thank you
  15. I have the manual on the front seat most of all time, unless I need the room then it sits in the back seat. This book is awesome and is ideal to look at.
  16. Was it an option in 1924 thru 1931, according to your chart, my car should have had wood wheels. Then after '31 was the wire wheels. So I am just guessing that you could have chosen type of wheel needed for your car during the ownership of it. My car has the disc wheels. Thank you for submitting the different hubcap pictures with reference numbers.
  17. I believe I have that book. And a blue book for years covering mine.
  18. I have about 5 books so far and found them all online on ebay! I have even purchased a book about the convertible roof designs. Mine was so ripped apart and not much to salvage. I think the new top would be just to cover front and rear seat and use the original rear window. Thank you everyone for your suggestions and recommendations . I appreciate everyone's help!
  19. Thank you all for your help. I think I will keep it as a '24 Dodge and just get the title updated with the "VIN" to reflect the chassis. The person that had the car before me, took paperwork when he bought the car, to a currency exchange and totally put numbers on the title from out of nowhere and the owner did not bother verifying if numbers were correct. I think that the currency exchange employee put the title number as the vin number. Anyway, I was able to have lhe police over to verify the correct VIN what it should be and filled out the form so I can get the right number where it matters.
  20. Here are my caps on my '24. Please view the pictures and I was thinking I had what you showed but view the screw on caps pictures
  21. Yes, just very hard to turn the crank. What bearings are you wondering about and the "sump"? I'm very new to this car and I am sorry for asking too many questions. I would love to get this thing on the road, where it belongs. My next thought is to drain the oil and refill with new oil. But ,again, I do not know how much to put in. There is a wire in a crevice on driver side front by the starter. I was told by the family that had it, that the wire is the oil guage. And it does seem to go up and push down easy as it reminds me of a bobber while fishing. Where else can I check the oil? I unbolted the brass fitting that was directly behind the water pump and the spring is present and so is the ball bearing, but no oil appeared, was there supposed to be visual oil or does the ball bearing do something completely different? The spring and the ball bearing are both in great condition, no rust. I took side covers off and can see movements from each valve etc, when my son( he's stronger than I am due to cancer treatments) so everything seems to go up and down, it's just very hard to crank. After I drain and refill the oil, I will see if that makes a difference. The wire bobber of oil checker may be registering fluid in the motor, but sitting outside for those years , that there may be water instead of oil. Good idea to drain and refill?
  22. Unfortunately that information of rebuilt motor and all that went on with storage is all I know. The people didn't know specifically what was rebuilt other than "the motor". I was thinking something might be or must have been tightened up too much. I was going to try getting slack from the generator/starter to see if anything happens. I've gotten multiple answers if it's a 12 volt positive ground and another said 12 volt negative ground? How can I tell? Is there a way to tell? The people that had the car did not know, they were too young to know what their dad did to it before passing away. No battery in battery box either. The cable coming from foot starter is brass and the other cable that is connected to transmission is regular steel colored. I just do not know how to wake this car up so I and it can get some fresh air and blow the cobwebs out of exhaust! Is there a way to get some slack from adjusting the starter? Does this make sense? I took head off, and all the tops and inside piston holes were very clean and no spot at all of rust.
  23. I am in the process of correcting the correct VIN on the passenger side frame rail. I had police over to verify that the number on the title was not correct for the car. He filled out documents to fulfill title number adjustment. I am also wondering if the title year of car should be corrected as well. The VIN on car was dated to Sept 11th to September 30th 1924. But the book of numbers says it is a 1925 series. If it is like new cars and old cars where the distinct year of car should match to following year of car, even though it was put together in 1924. So in your opinion, anyone can offer advise please, Shall the title be a 1924 or since it falls into 1925 series of numbers, be a 1925 Dodge? Thank you
  24. Hi, i have these on my 1924 Dodge brothers touring car.
  25. Hi. My 1924 Dodge Brothers Touring car has a hand crank or push button starter on the floor. The button just jiggles the generator and will not move. The hand cranking is very difficult to turn, even if all the spark plugs are removed. Could this indicate a bad starter/generator? Or what else can I try to do to make it rumble back to life. Thank you for any ideas you have.
