  1. The Battlefield Harley Davidson Dealer Ship is on Cavalry Field Rd. and Route 30 (York Rd.) further East of Gateway Blvd. where we turn off 30 to get to our Host Hotel.

I don't expect there to be a problem, I was half kidding about following a Harley to the area we will be at......however, worst case they actually might escort you to our show area. The Bikers up hear are good people.  ?

  2. Couple of quick travel notes using GPS or Maps.........To find the Hotel, which is easy,  look for Gateway Blvd.  (W. Presidential Dr.)

The Gateway Building and the Host Hotel are very visible from Rt. 15 and Route 30.

Route 30 is also called York Road.

Above locations are at the intersection of Route 15 and Route 30.

Worst case find some Harley Davis Motor cycles and follow them.

The Harley Dealership is a stones throw East of our Meet Location on Route 30.

  3. TerryB... when I was 16 my older brother bought a new '66 Chevelle, Blue with the 327ci, Four Speed,  Duals, Bucket Seats and positraction. It was a very fast Chevy that could easily run with the 396 SS Chevelles. When he left for the navy for two year my Brother gave me the keys to the Chevelle. Loved that car, the only one I actually owned that compared was a '95 Z28 6 speed manual, 350.

As for 3 speed Manual Transmission problems, I bought new in '72 an AMC Gremlin X V8 with HD Suspension, 3 speed Manual, Posie rear. I ordered it from the factory to race it in Auto Cross in E Stock against the BMW 2002's and kicked their butts. We won 8 First Places and were the e Stock Champ racing in Maryland, Pa. and Virginia. As for the 3 speed Manual I bent the floor shift mechanism from Shifting between 1st and 2nd which meant sliding the shift from bottom left  then to the right in neutral then up to 2nd  on the top right.

  4. Maybe a Tech School with a Auto Mechanics basics class to start her to learn how to wrench. Then focus on what era Cars to strive for. Don't think a Collector Car would be available for some one to try working on with out some basic experience and knowledge. The tech School would be a big help directing her to Car Clubs. Restoration Businesses  and other contacts if she wants to really get serious with the hobby and stick with it.

  5. Bias Ply Tires will do that?  Radials fix it usually. What are your tires. Also when I put new Gabriel shocks for vintage cars on my car with Bias Plys, and got the tire pressure adjusted it helped a lot.

  6. The Tire Point Deductions have been lowered and shouldn't hurt you.  I joined AACA and started Showing in 2012, and I took the same approach you indicated in expecting not to do well at first, but learn what I would need to to do for the next year or Show. I Love Wrenching, Detailing, Polishing, finding Parts and Documentation. I spend a lot of my spare time in my favorite place, the garage. You're going to enjoy doing the same and the best part is everyone at the Shows, especially those in your Class, the Judges, and others will give you great advise and help getting things done.  Also, just being there at the Shows is amazing. This is a good one coming, and followed by Hershey October 13th are going to be great Shows.

Oh forgot to mention, I to drive my car to all the Shows. Longest drive was to 155 miles, coming and going in pouring rain to Williamsport for the 2016 Grand National.

Best way to travel is in a vintage car.

Let me phrase this a simply as I can.

Does anybody think that they have ever had a car that was haunted or had ghosts?

    Or cursed or possessed?

Yes indeed!  I have a 69Chevy C10 Pickup that my Dad had bought New. After his passing I took Title to it and I love the truck, many memories. Here one of many interesting things with the haunting, which I enjoy as it keeps me connected to my Dad.

Often, when driving at night, when  passing under street lights one or two would go dark.

I had two friends with me one night and mentioned this to them and how it was my Dad checking in. We had to stop for Gas at a large Station with 6 rows of 6 pumps per row, covered by a huge metal canopy that had many lights under the canopy above. When we stopped at the pump all the lights were on but, when I stepped out of the truck, one light, and only one directly above the truck, went out. My Buddies got out and said they'd walk back to where we were staying. I told them it was my Dad and he was not going to hurt anyone he was just telling us he's with us.

Also, it seems that I'm the only one who can start the engine. The guys at the Shop I use have to call me to come start it. I turn the key and it easily starts.

There's many more stories about Pop's '69 C10 Truck but I'll stop with the above before the screen goes dark.

Are there any synthetic oils that have zzdp so you don’t have to mix a bottle of it into the oil?

Yes, I use PENNGRADE  part synthetic sae 15W-40 Green Oil with ZDDP high zinc. Excellent results you can hear when you run the engine.

  9. All I can say is to be able to achieve the Grand National Award in the same Year as Senior and Junior diminishes the rewards of the achievement. To walk up the latter of success should remain a timely process requiring one to work up to it and to preserve the vehicle over time.   I look forward to each step on a yearly basis and it keeps me involved in the Hobby that I love.

  10. Charlier's message is good advice.

The traffic in the center of Gettysburg on weekends during the summer can be very busy and I suggest that to get to the Wyndam Hotel  at (95 Presidential Circle, Gettysburg Pa. 17325) it would be best not to take Route 30.

Fortunately the Hotel Location is not down town, it's to the East of Town. Use GPS, or a Map to see how you can use Route 15 which runs North and South on the East side of Gettysburg. Route 15 is a Four Lane Hwy with Exit Ramps and can handle the traffic.

  11. Haven't seen much action about this Event here so starting this NEW Topic Post to hear you're interests.

The Registration Dead Line has past. I'll be going, it's location is in Gettysburg Pa. which is a great place to visit and have a Show at. I live in New Freedom Pa. about a hours drive for me, all Country Roads and I can come and go home each day that I attend. The Daily Schedule from Chesapeake Region looks like a lot of fun with interesting places to tour. The Show Saturday July 14th is what interests me the most.

I was reading about compression and it stated that the fuel in the Uk was of poor quality . Why ?

Because of the poor quality of the petrol (gasoline) in the UK at the time, British car and motorcycle manufacturers alike produced engines with relative low compression ratios.

WHERE DID YOU THINK ETHANOL GOT IT'S START?

  13. Hard to make a comparison I think. Hershey is a once a year event and the Club, Vendors and Participants  seem to be avid followers of "the HOBBY".

Indy is not just one RACE, once a year. The Indy Cars travel to different tracks through the year and frankly the Indy races at the other tracks are some of the best racing seen, IMO.

The Indy 500 seems to be closer to NASACAR racing however.   The F1 racing, also is a multi course yearly form of  racing at the highest level with World Wide interest.

F1 and Indy Racing and not a Hobbies. However, your point is well taken as far as young people getting into the Hobby. It's hard to attract them if there are not friends and family sharing the enjoyment and interest in the process and accomplishment of restoration, and the pride in the vehicles associated with AACA as a participating member.

If we want young people involved, give them a wrench. ?

  14. Water freezes and cracks blocks unless the anti-freeze prevents it, or the freeze seal on the blocks release the pressure.  I don't think Oil freezes. The oil cooling brings engine temperatures down some what and air flow over the entire engine, such as on the Porsche and VW, is routed to flow over cooling fins in the Cylinder heads which are horizontal to the block, Oil pan of sump, oil filter, etc. The porches have a fan as part of the fly wheel on the front of the engine. Also the engine is  made from light metal with good thermal conductivity. Magnesium and Aluminum was used for engine blocks. An Air Cooled engine, vs. water cooled, will never boil over or freeze.

  15. I have an Air Cooled Engine in my '74 Porsche 914, 90 HP 1.8 liter flat 4 cylinder  Boxer engine.

Air Cooled and Oil Coiled in that the Oil is very important to keeping engine temperature down.

I have an old Ted Williams 7.5 HP Sears outboard Motor from the '60s which is basically a push lawn mower engine not water cooled. Never had a problem. Also had several Motor Cycles over the years. Think about it this way, many Air Planes since the beginning had, and still have, Air Cooled Engines that demand dependable operation.

It just results in lost revenue. There are ways to bypass almost all of PA. I am not the only one avoiding the state. Maybe a copy of this correspondence should be sent to the ones who are trying to keep their jobs next November.

I live in South Central Pa. Near the Mason Dixon Line. Pa. gas is 30 cents per gallon more then Maryland due to a Pa. Tax on Gasoline. I buy my gas in Maryland. So if you are traveling in Pa. fill your tank before you come through. On a side note we love where we live, moved up here from Maryland 14 years ago and will never leave this area. Plus we're 45 minutes from Hershey so no hotel required during the Fall Meet.

  17. Jumping in late but here's my 2 cents worth.  New vehicles in general seem to be highly inflated in cost. Used cars that are maybe 2 years old can be bought for much less having the same design and options for the most part. Heard on the news that the averaged savings, buying used verses new knocks off $14,000.  Also heard used car sales are growing and faster then the new cars and have surpassed new car sales.......DAH!

My 2014 Chevy Equinox with only 16,000 mile on it we bought this year cost about half of the new cost when we include the trade in of a 2010 VW Tiquan,.  our purchase cost ended up at

$ 8,000 for the Equinox. The Equinox is averaging 30 Miles Per Gallon on regular gas.

Back Up Camera kits can be bought for $30. You pull your Rear Backup Light out to wire power to the Camera so when you put the car in reverse it turns on the Monitor and Camera.

Easy to install but if you need a shop to do it for you figure $ 50 for Labor.

I don't like the newer Pick Up Trucks. Too much glitter, ugly and to me they are too BIG in size compared to 4 or 5 years ago.  What happened?

  18. All being said I think we must recall that the Museum's Response to the Club's requests,  pertaining to the AACA Name issue which is being side tracked by the Museum while the Museum is now telling us it has some authority, and control, as to what the Club can do with our new HQ Building.  Does the Museum really feel they can restrict and limit our operation, can they? Limit displays, limit the Cars at the Club HQ? Is this a negotiation point they are creating to prolong the real issue?

  19. I went with one large roll up that opens up two bays of the three bay garage. I like to let the Sun and Air in while I'm working on the vehicles. Also the larger width makes it easier to get in and our verses two individual bays each with their own door. IMO I have panel windows across the width of the Roll Up to let light in when closed and allows me to see out side.
