  1. Hi All,

Took the '30 Buick out for its first Club run last week which was only a 10 mile trip and followed it up with a big test run to the Blue Mountains which is an area west of Sydney and part of the Great Dividing Range which as the name describes forms a geological range that runs north south down almost the whole east coast of Australia. The area is very popular for weekend drives and overnight stays given its much cooler climate. My wife and I are regular visitors and attend 1920s and 1930s events at a number historic hotels there. The second photo is of my friends Colin and his wife Dawn. Colin has been the heavy-lifter in the restoration of the '30 and I have learnt much from him. The photo was taken at the historic Hydro-Majestic Hotel in a village called Medlow Bath. It sits on an escarpment overlooking the Megalong Valley with the most fantastic views. The trip was both a reliability test for the '30 as it has been off the road since 1958 and it ran exceedingly well for the whole 100 mile round trip and to take my friends for a high-tea at the hotel as thank you for their hospitality and help over the 20 months restoring the Buick.  My next post is likely going to be a yearly event in western New South Wales in early May, the pre-1931 Autumn Run. This event will see approximately 120 cars from 1908 to 1930 on back country roads for four days. The last photo is a reminder of what the Buick looked like when I bought it in June 2021. Cheers Paul

From page 41 of the 1930 Buick "Specifications and Adjustments" book, "A coil spring is wound about each drum to aid in heat dissipation and in the reduction of brake noises."

You learn something new every day if you take the time!

  3. I have been working on 1930 Buick window garnishes using a oil based woodstain over a base coat colour matched to the original paint. I am using various paint brush grades to work in woodgrain patterns. I have been learning a lot through the process which is good but when I look back to the originals you can certainly see the improvements. Its quite amazing tge results you can achieve with such simple tools

  4. Hi All,

Last weekend was the return to the three day event called ChromeFest here on the New South Wales Central Coast. It is the first event since 2019 (covid cancellations of course) so it was with great expectation that hundreds of cars would converge at my local sea side town called 'The Entrance'. Arriving at our staging point at the Returned and Serviceman's League Club (the Australian version of the American Legion) I was advised that the local Council had cancelled the event due to rain. As we had already lined up the Buicks (13 or 14 I think) we decided to stay and went off to breakfast together in the Club. When we emerged an hour or so later other event attendees must have seen us parked there and joined in for what became and impromptu show and shine. By 11.30, the sun started to show and we drove down into town to find lots of classic cars were still around and the place was packed so we ended up having fish and chips and beers for lunch down by the water front. Despite the event being cancelled it there was still enough to do and see to make it a worthwhile trip and also to catch up with lots of Buick Club members. Cheers Paul
