  1. Hi All,

I' m looking for a pair of cornering light sockets, wire, and first connectors for my 64. I Have the correct turn signal switch, and wiring all the way to my grille, and the original plugs blocking the holes in my turn signal housings. It looks like I just need the sockets and connectors to make this cool option mine,

    Pic is from ebay

    Thanks for your time,

    Kevin

  2. Thanks for this info guys, and if anyone is interested on what the switch looks like inside, see below. The pics in the manual showing the switch now make a lot more sense.

I dove into it tonight after work. I unscrewed the switch from the column, and then disconnected the cable. I then tried to find the sweet spots on the switch manually and had limited success, so I disconnected the switch, and opened it up. oh my.. I found

1-that it appears to be a Cornering light enabled switch(see pic) and it needs to be cleaned

2- I appear to have the wiring for the cornering lights(see Pic)

3- I appear to have the wiring all the way to each corner

4-I have nothing from the last connector to the cornering light holes, and the plugs are still in place

5- thank god someone mentioned those little ball bearings or I would have lost them, lol

So I guess where I am at is I am going to try to refurbish the switch, and buy or manufacture the cornering light harnesses, re-install and re-adjust, and fingers crossed I will have working tail lights and cornering lights :)

Amy thoughts on the grease inside the switch?

Oh, and if you remove the spring as you suggest, do you make the two parts of the plate fixed to each other?

    Thanks again, Kevin

  3. I just did a clean and re-adjust on mine. The drawings in the manual were not quite right in regards to the top section of the one out of my 64. The grease was clean, but quite solid in many places. I was able to get all parts apart, cleaned greased and re-assembled following the directions in the shop manual. The nylon drive cable was in good shape. The adjustment was fun, but not bad with the help of a buddy and a high end fish scale. The only bit of advice I have is be very careful when you pull out the bearings on the drive arm.

It powers up and down well, but will intermittently quit sometimes on the bench. I think I will have to go into the motor side next and see what I can find.

  4. Hi All,

I'm trying to fix some little things and get my car back to stock. Somewhere along the line the fuel filter location was changed with the addition of an electric fuel pump.

So I do not have the bracket that holds the fuel filter in place between the pump and the carbs. Anybody got a spare on they are wiling to let go? It looks like it would be easy enough to fabricate, but its nice to have a factory part.

    Thanks

  5. Hey Tom,

I do not have the AC vents on either side of the dash. Here is a slightly blurry pic of the dash. I agree with you about the fuel return line being disconnected due to a switch of fuel filter or even pump. If I ordered either I would do so for a non AC car.

Which controls are vacuum run? It feels like all of sliders are mechanical, and the lights, wipers, and antenna are electrical.

    Thanks

  6. Hi All,

Here's one for you. My Car has the quire rare(I'm told) 2D Heavy Duty Air Conditioner Modification option. From what I have learned and observed that seems to mean that the car had a number of parts added to it that regular non A/C cars did not have. In the case of my car that would be the fan shroud, a complete unused fuel return line from motor bay to tank, and a alternator bracket with A/C mounting holes(see pic). My question relates to the vacuum tank mounted on the passenger inner fender. Does this normally serve a function in  a non A/C car? Mine has a vacuum supply line that initiates on the intake manifold, but I have nothing connected to the tank otherwise. So basically I am trying to figure out if I am missing a vacuum line to something, or is the vacuum tank just another part of this option.

  7. Hey, the second pic is of my car, a 64  dual 4 barrel . The first one just came off line. I was just curious because I did not recognize the vacuum tank, and my car has the mounting holes.

    Thanks for the reply.

  8. Hi , as I have looked at different First Gen Motor Bay pics I have noticed a couple of different things sometimes attached in front of the washer fluid reservoir on the drivers side inner fender. This one was particularly interesting. Any thoughts? My Car(Second Pic) seems to have the holes drilled to mount one of these things.

  9. Hey, I usually surf the Riviera forum, but I have a 624 code interior on my 64 that has never been touched as far as I can tell. It looks just like the pic you provided, white seats and door covers, but dash pad, hard dash parts, and package tray are all black.

  10. Hey Mitch, I am going to guess that the SCO is correct, and I am definitely leaning towards the 1953 Buick Mandarin(maybe iridescent) red colour. The 78 may be some sort of order number. I haven't pulled any interior yet, but looking at the trunk, and behind some lights its seems like a good bet. I may never have a definitive answer, so I will have to make a decision about what I'm going do when it comes time to paint. 1 One of the Stock colours 2 What I think was the original colour or 3 an updated Black Cherry Metallic :)   Decisions, decisions,.......

  11. Hey Tom,

the thing is I am pretty confident that the colour on the end of the doors and in the trunk is the original colour, at least on the lower body. The problem I'm having trying to equate that colour(or colours) to my body tag, and trying to decide if it was  a two tone car or not. Maybe I will get lucky and find a build sheet somewhere.

  12. Well I have been doing some more research, and digging around the car trying to figure out what the SCO 78-48 paint code may be on my car. I know that it would appear to be a two tone paint job, and the trunk/door jamb seems to be one colour, and the paint showing under the re-spray on the roof appears to be another, what does the group think about the possibility of a two tone car coming out of the factory with a 1953 Buick Mandarin Red(78) lower body, and a 1957 Cadillac Dusty Rose(48) Upper body. Please see pics(not great) and give me your thoughts.

PS for people looking for colours and codes, I found this site helpful, it lets you be very specific with your search, and even links to Google searches etc.     paintref.com

  13. Holy Cow! Well unless the parts gods are smiling on me, perhaps I will let the next owner worry about it. That kind of money would be allotted to something much higher up the priority list, like  windshield that isn't cracked and leaking, :). Thanks for the heads up, my last (aborted) project was a 62 Lincoln, and I know about parts being made of Unobtanium and Unicorn. I appreciate the reply.

  14. Thanks Guys,

Tom I had a feeling that the car never came with a mirror, because as far as I can tell so far the only variance from stock is a in line electric fuel pump and homemade dual carb linkage(soon to be replaced). I couldn't see someone removing the mirror and filling the holes, especially on a car that hasn't been insured since 1996.  I will run with that assumption until some possible time in the future when I pull off the door skin.
