After reading the post about getting into the scary world of classic/vintage Rivs and people talking about taking their cars to a mechanic, I wondered about people doing their own work on their cars. I`ve puttered on cars forever. But I cant afford to pay many people to do work for me. I farm out transmission work because automatics are not in the scope of my expertise and have friends that understand the metaphysical world of wiring . Other than that , my pension dictates that I learn new skill sets. I have built a few motors and enjoy that. Did all the bodywork , replaced many rusty panels ,learning how to mig weld along the way .Then came painting, prep sand prep sand... and finally paint. All this is hard work for a novice but still doable and it saves some cash . I suppose what my point is that i do what I feel I can and only sub out what I absolutely cant tackle otherwise the cost of ownership can get out of reach . I should add for reference that my working life was consumed by building wooden items of furniture for the CDN Navy. Cheers ,Scott

Are these like the ones you're seeking?

So, I am looking for splash aprons that cover the front suspension on my`64 .The car never had them in any of the boxes of parts that came with my Jigsaw puzzle .. I have looked at C.A.R.S.,Clarkes, and even my fave OPIG . Does anyone have any leads or even patterns off their spares? thanks, Scott.

Gents, two places ( both kinda weird) on other model cars, were mounted in the (1) engine compartment, and (2) was on a hinge down low on the dash. I guess you could flip the cluster down to view and flip it up at a show. Like I said kinda weird. On my `64 I used the flip up ashtray for my air suspension switches and the little rectangle box with the flip up lid in the consul for the air gauges. Schmiddy, you are a great technician I for one look forward to your resolution of the gauge cluster placement .

Finally got my trans out for repair. Got me to wondering about installing a posi unit in my `64. I have some questions for you fellows. Is a posi unit year specific? also what gear ratios were available in what years ? Any info would be great,My education continues. (I tried a search but no dice, probability using the wrong prompts) I did find out that I have a 3.07 rear end BN code. Thanks in advance, Scott

Looking for a source for new motor mounts and trans mounts for my`64 .
Rock Auto has motor mounts but the trans mount eludes me. I have looked at CARS and OPIG ,There is a fella on E=bay who has them all but big $$$ thanks, Scott

A small suggestion , the rear windows have many adjustment bolts that are over 50 years old. The adjustment is via a slot in the top. remove each one at a time and run a die nut { a hex shaped die with the corresponding thread size} over the threads and run a tap through the threaded hole you took the bolt from, oil both , replace and move onto the next one. there is plenty of adjustment to be done, this will at least aid the task.

I'm looking to replace my non-Buick mirror and have been looking at a couple of options, some not OEM. Could someone tell me the diameter of the OEM mirror?
Thank you

Sorry, late to the party. Did u have your car painted…why do your fender gaps need aligning?
Thanks,I painted my car. We were in the process of moving so the front end sheet metal got put on the car more as a storage idea.I had them off the car to paint them. I finished the paint job a few months later .

Yes, for the HVAC controls. Holds vacuum when you step on the go pedal so modes in HVAC system don't change.
Thank You for refreshing my memory,

Right side or left side as sitting in the drivers seat or standing in front of the car???? Usually the left is the drivers side (on a left hand drivin' vehicle) & the right is the passenger side.
Thanks, it`s the passenger side

On My 64 there is a small vacuum container on the left hand side . It`s black a
nd about 5 inches x 4 inches .Is this for the heater etc?

Wow ! 50K on a motor ! I like the fab work and enjoy that it`s being shared here. This is WAY out of my league but who cares . Build them because you can !

Check all brake lines as well . I found a leak in one of mine, took it out and decided that if one was bad ...you know the rest of the story.

If you aren't a member of the Riviera Owners Assn. You might want to look at joining. Many vendor dismantlers in the Riview . you should be able to find someone near you.
If we knew where you lived I could point you in the right direction.

There are many suppliers of replacement floorpans CARS Old Buick Parts is one. For braces we had to fab up our own...no one makes any repops that I am aware of. I bought a complete trunk floor from Rivi Central in Sacramento CA give him a try. He advertises in the Riview .

I did this one with the wheel off the car. I think it's a matter of being able to apply pressure in more than just the point where you're trying to get it to seat. When I bought them, we mounted a ring to a wheel that was sitting in the back of Large Marge. This time I did it on a wheel sitting on a work bench. I'm probably too old and stiff to get down on the ground and get all hands and feet involved. When the snow leaves the ground and it warms up, I'll give them another shot with wheels mounted on the ground.
I got them from:
The Hubcap and Wheel Store
2810 South 44th Street
Kansas City, KS 66106
913/432-0022
The part number, as I remember it, is in a previous post. The distributor or manufacturer ( I dont know which) is Coast to Coast, as least that's what I was told. I talked to the counter guy and he said that he thinks there should be a distributor close to you somewhere. You might give him a call.
If you can't make a deal with him, let me know.
Ed
Thank you Ed
