  1. I think by measuring it, and three bolts on the carb, the engine appears to be the smaller one... which is ultimately what I was trying to find out.
  2. I am having challenges locating the engine serial number on my 1936 Buick. There appears to be a large number behind the starter solenoid. I will have to remove the solenoid to get the actual number. Am I looking in the right location?
  3. trim number appears to be 245. However, I am begining to wonder if the firewall tag, which was not attached is the real one.. it's kinda destroyed where the serial number is and the last four digits don't appear to match the title and the number on the passenger side frame does not match the title either... Anyway, my email address is peerplaut@gmail.com I am looking for the fabric pattern for the original and was there carpet in the back and just vinyl floor in the front? Also, the door panels and headliner. There have been several partial restorations on this care and therefore several layers...
  4. I just aquired a 36 Buick with a Trim tag of 245. Did anybody ever find an photos of what the original looked like? I was able to remove two additional layers that others added and it looks like a pinstripe fabric?
  5. I have ordered a shop manual, I am waiting on it to come in.. Thanks again for your help.
  6. My interchange parts book came today.. I'm trying to tell if my car is a 68 or a 48? The vehicle tag, which was not fixed to the car shows a Model 48. Yet as near as I can tell, the 48 came with the small engine, and I believe I have the 320. Are there any other clues?
  7. Do I need to remove the springs first to get the shocks completely off? I have two bolts it seems are blocked by the springs...
  8. I may need some help in identifying my car... lol. I have identified the 320ci engine based on the serial number being behind the distributor and the extended length of the block. I have decided to keep the original motor if possible. Tonight after work, I will run a compression check. The car has recently been running. After the compression check I will do a leak test. What psi am I looking for?
  9. How would I know how bad the bearings are?
  10. I do not have the engine apart yet. I do know it is a 320. Based on the length and where the engine serial number is, aft of the distributor. There are 80k on the speedo. The engine runs, but I cannot test under load. I can check compression later today and post back. I have looked at electric over drive as an option. I appreciate all your help.
  11. I really really love the look of this straight 8. All I hear is it will cost a fortune to increase the horsepower and that the engine will not last very long because of the bearings, pistons will have to be hand crafted, etc. Keep me from getting to discouraged....
  12. Jeff- Thanks for your reply. I have stared at the front end of this car for several days.. I think not modifying the suspension is the way to go. I have a shop manual ordered, but I am having trouble getting the old shocks off to get get them re-manufactured. Do you have any clues? Thanks!
  13. I have this car I am pulling apart piece by piece to get it redone. I have a couple of questions. People around here tell me the straight eight in this car, is not worth building up because of the cast bearings and to drop a modern v-8 in the car to get the power I want to have things like AC and 12 volt systems and today's highway speeds. I want to put dual master cylinder and disk brakes all around. Anybody know of a kit for the front end? If I put in a small block V-8 any recommendations for engine, transmission and rear end? Is there a speedo and gauge setup I can buy that will replace the original? I would like to re-place the front end with a more modern front end. Rack and pinion steering, etc. Any ideas here?
  14. I appreciate you helping me find the answers, i am looking for.
  15. Thanks guys- I was going to do an original restoration, however, people around here to told me to upgrade some of the items to make it more driveable. I do want to drive the car... a lot. I am taking it apart piece by piece in my garage having everything cleaned and epoxy primed. However, here are my concerns, based on conversations here... The engine has cast bearings and rebuilding it will cost a small fortune. Drop a small block V-8 in the car.. My concerns, the speedo and guages won't work anymore. Me. The straight 8 is beautiful. It does run.. but I think I need more horsepower to pull the car around and add things like A/C upgraded 12 Volt electric, etc. In a nutshell. I want a reliable, safe car, that can safely travel highway speeds.
  16. Has anybody replaced the front end with a more modern front end?
  17. I am requesting this thread be moved to the pre-war buick section. Thanks! P.
  18. Does anybody have a technical document on how to remove the axle. Is there a pin in the differential that needs to be removed to or would you you just use a slide hammer?
  19. these guys are about 30 min away from me. I stopped by their shop they are amazing. there were able to cross reference by 1936 Buick doors with 1936 Chevrolet sedan and have my wooden parts ready in 4 weeks. Classic Wood Manufacturing 1006 N Raleigh Street Greensboro, NC 274057328 - View Map Phone: (336) 691-1344
  20. My buckets are in pretty good shape. Just need some metal fabrication on the bottom. Are they better to repair or try to find in good shape? Thanks
  21. Does the inside match the exterior color in most or all cases?
  22. Thanks to Bob's Classic Auto Glass, I was able to get what I believe may be suffcient cross reference. They do have a fair return policy if the glass does not work out. The front and the back glass are definitely Buick. The side glass cross references with a 1936 Chevrolet Master Deluxe or Coach 2 door. Body style 36-1001. I hope if the side glass works, then the wood should match up... I plan on using Classic Wood Manufacturing here in Greensboro, NC 336-691-1344 as they have a reasonable four week delivery time and I can take my doors down and see if the jig looks close...
  23. Hi- I recently purchased this car, which for it's age seems to be in relatively good shape. Does anybody know if the 36 Chevy wooden frame will fit the Buick door? I've heard yes and know and was directed to post my question here. Thanks! Peer
