  1. I daily drive my 1989 Suburban and show in HPOF.  I was at Hershey, VA Beach, Charlotte and Spencer in 2015.

Going to Naples FL, NJ, Charlotte and Spencer this year and a bunch more in between :)  No trailer - although I do have a hitch and can tow someone else's car/truck :)

  2. Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving!

This weekend, my inlaws gave my husband and I their Honda CB160 that's been sitting in their garage for maybe 40-odd years!  The good thing - it was in the garage so the rust isn't too bad.... the bad thing, the battery leaked and caused some damage.  Oh well.  But i think we have a decent bike to start restoring to first driveable condition, then possibly onto a full restoration to start showing.  I'm quite excited to start working on this, although I know it will be a bit more time so we can get past the holidays, etc.  I also want to do some more research on it etc.

My first question - how can you tell what year it is?  My mother in law thought it was a 1964-65, but after doing a bit of reading, they didn't build these until 1965.  The vin doesn't tell us anything about the year of the bike.  I'm open to all ideas, suggestions and places to buy parts etc.

Thanks for all of your help in advance :)

  3. You will find little to no modifications at an AACA show.  They stress the importance of keeping vehicles stock - or as stock as can be. It is restored to factory original, or better then factory.  My pictures showed every vehicle there when I walked the field :)  I do that mainly for my husband who rarely gets to go to the smaller shows with me due to work. :)  But I also like to share with all my friends too and please feel free to download any photo you would like.  :)

Thanks for the compliments on the photos guys! :)

  4. While I was washing my Burb, I was wondering how many times other people have entered their vehicle in HPOF and the number of chips you have on your board(s)!

Hershey made a full year of shows for me.... I have 4 chips - going for #5 tomorrow in Spencer NC :)

Who has the most HPOF chips here in the AACA? :)

  5. we got home a couple of hours ago and spent the better part of our 8-hour drive home talking about how GREAT the show was!  The weather was 99% PERFECT.... the crowds were great... the cars and trucks on the fields were outstanding!!!

THANK YOU to the Hershey Region for a SPECTACULAR SHOW!!!!!

THANK YOU to the 4 gentlemen on team 387 for a great Judging Experience!  You guys were fantastic and willing and able to answer not only my questions and inquiries, but helped each other out immensely!  This was just a fantastic team and I hope to work with you all again :)

I also had the privilege of speaking to so many wonderful AACA members about our "used cars"!!  We share some great stories - even the one about the "Car that belongs in the WalMart parking lot"!!!  Thank you so much for stopping by and chatting - I had so much fun!!!!

  6. Hi!  I don't want a modern unit - those are too easy to come by and would ruin my HPOF ;)  I need an original (working) unit.  Our drive to Hershey in a few weeks is going to be rough without music! lol  Some of the units have different plugs in the back - found that out the hard way when I thought I found a good unit a couple of years ago, but couldn't plug it in to try it.

    AnniesSS,

I've got the factory AM/FM/Cassette Radio in the '86 Suburban , but the cassette tape player is probably not working properly - haven't tried it in a while.

Are you looking for a factory unit to have restored?...

or a good modern unit to adapt?

  7. After taking the Judges Class and Apprenticeship in VA Beach, I signed up to judge in Hershey and I'm really excited to be able to help out this year!  Friday looks to be pretty straightforward, but how does it work on Saturday?  My Suburban will be in HPOF - will there be a way to catch a ride to the Judge's Breakfast, etc that morning, then back to my truck to give it a final clean-up?

Thanks in advance for the assistance :)

  8. Just interested in seeing how many people are planning on attending this show :) I will be there with my Suburban. It's my first time at this show and am looking forward to another great day :) While going to the Regional and National meets are excellent, going to the smaller shows gives more time to socialize with the other people near you so please stop by and say hi! I'm sure I'll have the only Suburban there - although I'd love to see more lol
