  1. Finally got the pan. It does fit the trunk area and will need a trim here and there to make it lay in just right. I will enclose pictures. The stamped reliefs are different from the original floor. Not as deep and wide. It will work and after a mat is in there you wont be able to tell. So I guess a 61 trunk pan for a ford will fit a 61 mercury. Hope this info can help someone else out there. :D

  2. The cloth pattern looks right. It's in the seat centers. I think all the years of sun beating on it it turned more gold. The arm rests and dash pad have a green tint still. Thanks for looking into it. You all, have been a big help on this project. Starting to come along nicely so far.

  3. From what I can tell from the picture that the company shows and looking at mine they look the same. I know the 61 full size ford and mercury parts interchange. Just didnt want to throw away $250 if its not right.

  4. I found the build sheet and I have a question. The trim code on the VIN plate is a clearly stamped 13 but the build sheet has it listed as 18. What does the car manufacture consider the true code? Ididn't even see a 18 code number on the decoding links. It's for this car since the VIN number is on the sheet. It lists trans-Z, axle-5 8. Just curious to what the car has in it from the motor back. Thanks for all your help and info so far.

  5. I did run the decoders and it shows red and white. I don't know why some one would change it all out. The car is in great condition, has alot of the factory parts. Nothing has been hacked or changed. If it had two color seats it makes me wonder if it is a sport. It looks just like the one in the youtube video.

  6. Thanks for all the info. I have seen that you tube clip. Sharp 61. What classifies it as a sport coupe? My 61 was produced in the LA plant. #3569 ordered that year. The VIN tag shows that it came with a red and white interior, but the interior color was a light green or goldish color. The lower steel part of the dash is gold. The head liner color was a tan color when I removed the interior side panel. I wonder if it was an upgrade option? The car color was a Tawny Biege, trim (13), date (12K), tr ©, AX (8).

  7. I know that it wasn't a very popular car at that time. I like the car because it is unique and something you dont see everyday. I have people asking me why I want a big gas guzzling car like that. I tell them that this car stands for america. A time in american history when we were in a space race and getting people excited. The cars were looking like space ships. It represents an era when things were made in the USA. No plastic junk on the car. Good old nuts, bolts, screws, and strong metal. Simple times. I even found the owners insurance card from 1969, a letter from his brother from SC. a money advance so he could send money home to his sick wife, the original operators manual, and the car inspection sheet from when he was stationed at Fort Hachuca in AZ. He was an Army troop back in 1969. It's not just a car, it's someones history. Some ones life at that time. Me being a military man for 28 years I can relate. Sorry for rambling on. America is change so much and I want to keep the old iron alive and style close to home. "God bless the old girl"

  8. Hello All,

I'm new to this forum but have been on several others. I just picked up a 1961 Mercury Meteor 800. It has the 352 v8 and power steering and power brakes. It even has the optional fender mirrors. The car is 100% all original and has never been messed with. It even came with papers in the glove box from one of the owners in 1969. Has a bill of sale when he bought the car for $574. Any way I was wanting to know where I can get all the rubbers and weather stripping for the car. I live out in Arizona so it's pretty much gone. The car itself is very solid and the only rust area is the trunk pan. I will see if I can upload some pics of the gem. Thanks and hope to chat with you folks. :)
