  1. Hello,

I recently had my Carter BB-1 updraft carburetor rebuilt. I have reinstalled it on my car (1930 Franklin) and the car is backfiring. The carb has both an idle adjustment and high speed adjustment. Can someone please give me some tips on how to get both adjusted properly?

    Thank you for your help!

  2. I purchased my 1930 Franklin from a gentleman in South Carolina in March of 2013. He purchased it from Charles Wilmarth III in 2002. Charles had purchased the "basket-case" vehicle in 1997 from someone in California and was told that was where the car was originally purchased in 1930. The serial number on the car is 45198709L30. Would anyone have any info on prior owners?

    Thanks,

    Bill

  3. I recently watched a video of Jay Leno talking about his 1915 Franklin. He mentions that it was so advanced for it's time that it had a 12 volt battery. Is this accurate? Would this have had a 12 volt system originally? It's a beautiful car!!

    Thanks,

    Bill

  4. I have a 1930 Franklin model 145 that has a Carter BB-1 carburetor on it. I have a couple of questions about the carb:

How do I adjust it (which screws)?

It has an opening on the underside of the carb that I am not sure should actually open. It will sometimes leak gas from this opening. I have posted a few photos of it. Should something actually be in this opening?

    Thanks!

  5. I am in the process of installing new wheel brake cylinders on the rear wheels of my 1930 Franklin. I have the new cylinder installed, but what is the trick to getting the brake shoe spring reattached? Is there some special tool used for this? If so, can someone please send me a photo of it?

    Thanks!

  6. First, I want to thank everyone for the continued help!

I am working on a 1930 Franklin which has a leaking rear brake cylinder. The car was completely restored about 12 years ago. I have obtained a hub puller that is wide enough to fit the wheel lug pattern. I have it on the car and have cranked it down very hard but the hub just is not budging. I have tried hitting the brake drum with a hard rubber mallet but that has no affect. Any thoughts on how I can get this brake drum off?

    Thanks!

  7. Hello,

I recently acquired a 1930 Franklin 145. I am attempting to get one of the rear brake drums off to work on the brakes and cannot get the drum to budge. The brake pads do not appear to be holding it. I went to the auto supply store to rent a hub puller and it is much too small for the lug bolt pattern. Can anyone assist me with this?

    Thanks!
