  1. So, after TWO weeks worth of work... - All wire splices have been replaced on both sides. Even if they looked good and clean, they were replaced. - The carpet has been cleaned pretty thoroughly. There is a oil spot on the rear shelf that is being stubborn, but it is coming out slowly. - I have narrowed down the fuse problem to the passenger door area. The fuse will not blow when the driver's door is open, but will instantly blow if the passenger door is opened. I'm farther along than I was, but still unsure where to go now. - The 'Door Ajar' light in drive has been traced to a short in the driver's side door jamb switch circuit. The switch was tested and it works just fine. - I still have a code 26, and have very poor drivability. The transmission doesn't act like it wants to shift right, and I'm betting that the issue is in the solenoids. It was shifting just fine before it sat for another 6 months. - Still no fog lights. Must be a wiring issue. More to come later!!
  2. Time for tonight's update: Today's task was the passenger side splices. They were all pretty corroded, so I figured that I found the problem. After about a few hours of work, I had them all fixed. I put everything back and then gave the car power, and found that everything lit up perfectly and it stopped blowing the fuse #2. Next on the list: Carpet cleaning and fluid changes. It's gonna get really messy here soon, lol. Also, thanks for all the comments! This is hard work, but it is a lot of fun! I love these cars!
  3. First update of my break week! Yesterday's task was removing the driver's side seat, carpet, and fixing splices. At the end of the evening, ALL splices were redone, whether they looked like they needed it or not. Today's task was to fix (eliminate) the stripped screw problem in the passenger headlight motor and reassemble. It was fairly straightforward, and it made me remember how much fun it was to put a headlight assembly back in, lol. Tomorrow's task is to remove the passenger's side seat, carpet, and fix the splices in there. I am still blowing fuse #2 as soon as power is given to the car, so I am hoping that these passenger seat splices will fix this problem. Also, still no working fog lights... Pictures:
  4. Got the car back with a wonderful new headliner!! The pictures I took are crap just because it is dark, but it is an absolute color match, and it looks like it was brand new from the factory! Needless to say, I am very pleased with the result!
  5. Just had a bit to look over the manual. I might have a failed solenoid A in the transmission that keeps the car from shifting right. I'm guessing that the best way to check the solenoids is to run the tests from the manual?
  6. Also, some pictures: Finally back together after 4 months! Before loading the trailer! After new tires installed. Looking nice!
  7. Thought I should post an update before the night was out. - Four new Michelin tires with 90,000 mile warranty are on, and boy are they an improvement!! - Headliner will be taken care of in the next few weeks. - Many/all electrical repairs will be done by next week. I have the whole week off of school, and I intend on making some good progress while I have the time. New Issues: Code 26 QDM fault occurred, and that is being addressed in another thread. A/C works, but only blows out of the defrost vents. I will be looking at that in a week, and I am starting with the arm that connects to the programmer. Fog lights still don't work after the new switch was installed. Looks like I will be having fun in some wiring soon. I have no back-up lights. Nor sure if bad bulbs or wiring problem, but I will check next week. Engine runs GREAT!! But, it smells a little bit rich to me. O2 sensor has been replaced, so could be regulator or injector(s). I will address it next week with a tune-up. May need a lower radiator hose. I noticed a small coolant leak on the trailer going to get the tires today. Again, a problem for next week. I must say, I absolutely love this car, and am loving the reatta experience!! More to come later!!
  8. The 91 finally got it's tires today, but after I drove it around to break in the tires some, I got a check engine light with a code 26. Now, I think this is transmission related because the car had a heck of a time getting up on the trailer to be hauled to the tire bay at Sam's. It seemed really sluggish in D4 (overdrive) and would not climb well on ramps, even at 3500 rpm. It responded the best in SECOND, but did not appear to shift, which leads me to believe that a solenoid could be the culprit here. It acted like it was stuck in either 2nd or 3rd. I know from the manual that there is a failure similar to that, but I can't remember it. Any thoughts?
  9. More progress and more on the way!! - Finally fixed the odometer ERROR. The problem was a bad EEPROM/not properly programmed EEPROM. But it's FINALLY fixed and over with, so now I can fix more things! - New tires will be installed on Tuesday. They are Michelins with a 90,000 mile warranty. They will probably crack from age before the tread wears out. - I will be putting a new headliner in here in a few weeks. It is annoying to be working in the car and have the headliner dragging across your head, lol. - Also, I accidentally broke one of the tiny screws in the headlight motor, and nothing I have can remove what is left of the tiny screw. Tiny setback, but it isn't a huge deal. So, if anyone has an extra passenger side headlight motor that needs a rebuild, please let me know. - I'm still working on fixing the fuse #2 problem. I will be repairing ALL splices under both seats after I do the headliner job. Fun things coming up for this car. Prep for paint starts in a month and a half!
  10. In a nut shell, the problem was a bad EEPROM burn, and I had to send it back a few times to get it fixed. The guy at prospeedo has the equipment to view and burn them, and must've accidentally sent a bad one. He eventually got a new set of blank EEPROMs and burnt me one that worked.
  11. I believe that the EEPROM that was originally reprogrammed was bad, and just to make sure the BCM wasn't bad too, I used a different BCM. The IPC was good, as is the battery (but it needs a charge from sitting.)
  12. I would also like to know how this was fixed too, lol. All that I know is that I have a working EEPROM that has the correct mileage for the car, and I am using a different BCM which was tested to be good. Probably a little luck here and there helped me out too.
  13. I am happy to finally post a resolution. After multiple attempts to fix the ERROR in the odometer, I can say that it is finally repaired! Now on to the other issues! New tires will be mounted soon!
  14. Ok, so after making sure the EEPROM was properly seated, I managed to get back all of my gauges with the exception of the odometer. I have a working IPC and ECC now. I guess I didn't have the chip seated all the way after all. I also tried using my original BCM, and found it to be good too. I must really be terrible with electronics and computer stuff. Here below is what I have now. BUT, I still have ERROR in the odometer slot, and a code B556c. I am still assuming the EEPROM is not good. (Both EEPROMs cause ERROR in the odo. area) Also, a question: I know that the EEPROM season odometer information has to match up with a checksum value. So, could it be possible that when the person I sent the chip to only accounted for the mileage correction and not considered the checksum value not matching with the season odometer information? If so, what would need to happen to that value in order for the chip to display mileage instead of ERROR?
  15. Yes, I always disconnect the battery before working with the EEPROM or any electronic components.
  16. Just got but chips back from being redone (again). I tried them both and neither of them work now. This is pretty frustrating, and now I'm out of options. Where do I go from here? (Other than getting my money back of course)
  17. Hello everyone, I have some more progress to report! - I bought a new replacement fog light switch. Only cost me $16 with shipping from Rock Auto. Luckily, I bought the last one they had. - I bought a used working power antenna and installed it. Thanks to my3buicks (Keith) for the part! - After wrestling with the odometer and the BCM, I found that the EEPROM I had sent off to be programmed with the correct mileage was cutting data communications with the car. Thankfully, the used BCM I bought off of eBay had both chips in it, so I could mix and match to see what happened. Prospeedo agreed to fix the EEPROM with no cost to me. - I cleaned out the 10-year buildup of crap from the console area, and repaired a crack in the headlight switch. - I have 4 brand new Michelin tires waiting to be installed. They are 90,000 mile warrantied and should last for a long time. A problem that I have is a constantly blown fuse #2. I guess I am pulling the driver's seat to repair splices with that. I also have an issue with the passenger seat where not all of the directions work. I am guessing that the switch is to blame here. More to come soon! (New fog light switch!)
  18. I've owned five. In order: 1990 LeSabre Custom * 1989 Reatta Coupe 1990 Reatta Convertible * 1995 Regal Custom * 1991 Reatta Coupe * * = currently own My fiancé also owns a 2001 Century Custom, and my grandparents own a 2014 Turbo Regal, and it is AWESOME!!!!! There's a good bunch of Buicks in the family over here.
  19. Bad sending unit/float I bet. I had 5 gallons of gas put in when I parked it. The person who had it before me (a dealer) replaced the fuel pump, and probably messed up the float while it was out.
  20. I believe you are right. If I remember right, it is located around the oil filter. Pretty easy fix compared to what I just dealt with.
  21. I just contacted prospeedo, and they will be redoing the odometer chip for free. So hopefully everything will be squared away soon. I really appreciate all of the advice and technical know how shared in this thread!
  22. The problem has been SOLVED. :D:D Well, at least discovered. I put my AWAC chip in with the spare odometer EEPROM and the IPC and ECC lit up just like normal. I can guess that whatever prospeedo did with my original EEPROM was interrupting the data line. Here are some pictures with the other EEPROM installed:
  23. KDirk, if it isn't too much trouble, could you make a chip for me? I can send the AYTH chip to you if you need something to write over. Send me a PM if you need things sent to you. Also, I really appreciate all the help and diagnostic information that you, and everyone else has offered here.
  24. KDirk, thank you for your comment. Here are some answers to your questions. I have no gages or instrumentation, just the 00 ERROR message as if the IPC was bad. Interior lights do not work. RAP does not work. The security system works properly with horns blaring and fog lights flashing. My fog light switch does not work but I was aware of that. The color coded connector shells are the proper color of Red and Brown. The BCM was a tested and working unit from a running Toronado. Could this mean that my BCM PROM was fried by my original failed BCM? If so, where could I find an AWAC PROM?
  25. I just got a used BCM out of a 92 Toronado off of eBay in today. Swapped both chips over and tried it. There was no difference, still 00 ERROR on the dash and (---) in the ECC. I made extra sure that everything was seated properly and that I didn't accidentally shock anything, and still I get the same result. I am running out of ideas here...If the issue is not with the BCM, could it be in the PROMS? I received both proms with the new (used) BCM. The chip is an AYTH. I will check tomorrow using the chips from the other BCM.
