  1. Today was a rain-filled work day. I have begun to put the weatherstripping back on the windshield. I am also cleaning out the windshield washer reservoir filter and preparing for a coolant flush in the next couple of days. I also got a new transmission filter from amazon and will be doing a flush and filter change whenever the weather clears up.

We're moving right along with this one. If I'm lucky, it will be ready to paint before the end of Summer! :) Stay tuned for more!

  2. I would bet on the fuel pressure regulator. Kerry is right about first checking for fuel pump operation and correct pressure first. You can jump 12 volts directly to the pump to verify operation via the green wire under the hood.

  3. Time for another update. I've been fairly busy, so here goes:

I have resolved the fog light issue. The BCM did not have the proper option content numbers programmed and therefor did not believe that it had fog lights to turn on. Thanks to KDirk for the correct numbers.

I still have the A/C problem of only blowing out the defrost vents. Not entirely sure where to go there as replacing some damaged vacuum lines did not help. But, the vacuum line repair seemed to help the car run a little better through, so not all bad there.

This morning I have replaced all of the bulbs on the car that were burnt out or not working. After many trips to find the highly elusive 890 bulbs, (found at only one store in the whole county!) I finally have all of the lights working!  :)

Now, I am slowly getting all of the parts in to do the oil and transmission fluid change, as well as a coolant flush. More to come later!  :D

  4. I replaced a vacuum line to the reserve tank and still have no luck with the A/C. The FSM says that if A/C blows out defrost but not vents then to check upper mode valve. Where exactly is this valve? If I could guess it would be all the way behind the dash where I can't get to it.

  5. This morning I found a badly disintegrated vacuum line going to the vacuum reserve tank. It literally fell apart in my hands. Hopefully this solves the issue because I did the tests in the A/C diagnostic section of the FSM and it appears that everything is working as it should be, at least according to the computer and the programmer.

  6. I'm finishing the last few things on the interior of the 91, so I thought it would be appropriate to ask this now:

Since I have bought the car, the air has only come through the defroster vent. It will also come through the floor vents if the ECC is in BI-LEV or HEATER. There is no blockage to my knowledge in the system, and the A/C is a r-134 system that does blow cold air. The compressor and clutch engage as they should, so I'm betting that the system is functioning properly.

Am I looking at a vacuum line needing fixed or is this related to the arm that runs to the top of the HVAC programmer?

  7. I'll have to look, not sure if the SES does this on 91's or not. The 88 and 89 models do for certain, but somehow I think 90/91 don't as they use one of the icons in the climate panel display to indicate closed/open loop mode instead.

    KDirk

I know that my 90 convertible does the SES flashing during closed and open loop, but not sure about the 91.

  8. Now that I have the fog lights figured out, one of the last things that I have a question about is the SES light during diagnostics.

I know that the SES is supposed to flash based on being in closed or open loop, but the light does nothing while I am in diagnostic mode. I know the bulb isn't burned out because it lights when the key is turned to ON (engine off).

This does not effect the way the car runs or drives to my knowledge, and no codes are stored. What is the cause of this?

  9. While I'm thinking about it, are you interested in selling your extra console foglamp switch since it is a spare now? The one in my 'vert is a bit rough and the Camaro used a similar one I found but has orange (not blue-green) illumination.

    KDirk

Kevin, if I can find it, then yes. It didn't look the best when I removed it, but I think it still worked and illuminated correctly. I just hope that none of the plastic keepers didn't break during removal.

I will say that if it isn't in good shape, you might want to check rock auto for one. Every now and then they get some in stock. That is where I got my new one and it works perfectly.

  10. The values are not correct in my car. I know that TEMP will alter the value, but how do I save the new number? Also, is this done in the override section or the BCM data section?

Edit: The new values solved the issue. :)

I figured out how to save values via section 8D in the FSM. For others looking, you hold HTR and DEF for 3 seconds (heater and defrost).

  11. Ok, an update to this:

I replaced the relay and the situation remained the same.

I checked to see where the hot sides of the relay were. The top and left side had power. (Position 1 and 5) This is correct according to the FSM.

The BCM suddenly began to allow the fog lights to flash on and off via diagnostic mode. The relay also clicks when this happens.

BUT, the fog lights cannot be operated from the console switch, which is odd because the switch is showing as good from BCM diagnostics when it switches from HI to LO.

So, what should I try to check next? I'm not sure that this is a wiring problem or a connection problem.

  12. The 00 ERROR message is a sign that your instrument panel is on its last leg. It will need to be replaced or rebuilt. There are a few people on here that may have some, and if not, I'm sure there are some floating around on ebay.

  13. I have found the solution! I followed the tests in the FSM once I saw that the relay positions were conveniently labeled right on the relay center for me. I was able to make the fog lights work by jumping a paperclip between positions 1 and 4. The test result said that I need to replace the fog light relay. Odd, considering I have already swapped it out and heard it click through diagnostics, but now I can at least start here with a new relay.

  14. Kerry, I have tried turning on the parking lights and then the fog light switch, but the fog lights still do not light. I have also tried the brights to make sure they work, and the fog lights won't light no matter the condition.

  15. Ok everybody, I have finally ventured under the hood to check the Fog Lights! As some may remember, my fog lights do not work at all when commanded by the switch on the console. They do, however, work when the anti-theft system is triggered, and they flash just like normal. An odd circumstance, isn't it?

I spent the majority of the evening chasing down wires and doing the tests found in the FSM. So far:

-I have verified that the Fog Light Switch does indeed work. I bought a new one last year in an attempt to fix this issue.

-Using diagnostics, I can hear the fog light relay clicking on and off. I was skeptical, so I switched with a known working relay (fuel pump) and nothing changed, so I am assuming that the relay is good.

-I have chased the wire from the fog lights back almost all the way to the interior. I know that the purple wire is the hot wire according to the FSM, and it was not reading anything with a test light, voltmeter, or ohmmeter. The ohmmeter showed ∞ which indicates a short somewhere on the circuit.

Now, in the FSM, some of the fog light tests mention hooking a test light to position 1 or 5 in the relay. I had no idea what it was talking about, so I did not test that. My question is: where should I go from here? I have power inside at the fuse block but not outside to the fog lights, and I am just unsure of what I need to do next.

  16. Another update:

I have the driver's window working better than before, but I believe that the window motor is on its way out, so I have put everything in the interior back together, and will simply avoid any drive through until I fix it. :)

The transmission issues have resolved themselves thankfully! I think that the car sitting as long as it did caused problems with the connections.

So at this point, the interior and most of the electrical finished! :) I will be setting up to begin fluid changes here in the next week or so. I am happy to say that I am over halfway done with the restoration! :)

  17. Just to post a resolution to this. I got to take the car out today for a drive to check the transmission out. I am happy to report that everything is working perfectly! Everything was shifting right and there was no check engine light. I'm not sure why it decided to start working today, but I'm not complaining at all, lol!

I'm guessing that the main problem was that it was sitting for so long that the connection wasn't very solid at the transmission. Just to be safe, I will still do a fluid and filter change because I'm sure that it needs it.

Just goes to show that when a car sits for some time, stuff really does stop working.

  18. Hmm, picture didn't want to work...odd... no matter, I used some JB Weld and clamped the piece carefully to the window. It was sticking just fine as of a few minutes ago. I will let it sit overnight and test tomorrow or Saturday.

  19. My 91 has had an ongoing issue with the window on the driver's side for some time, and I believe that there is some binding caused by this seen in the pic below...

It has obviously came off of the window, and I was wondering what is the smartest way to put it back into place? Sorry, the pic turned out sideways.

  20. So I have finally got around to testing the solenoids in the transmission.

Using the service manual, I started by making sure that power was getting to the transmission, and it was.

Next, I checked the voltage at terminals A and E to ensure a proper voltage, and it was good at 11.5-12 volts.

Next, I took an ohmmeter and checked for continuity of the wires inside the transmission. The pins that led to the solenoids proved to be good and continuous.

I then went into diagnostics to test to see that the solenoids would click. On a 91, the ECM Outputs EO07 through EO10 are reserved for the transmission solenoids. EO07 is TCC, EO08 is PWM, EO09 is A, EO10 is B. After cycling through these tests in diagnostics, I could hear each solenoid click, and concluded that they were all working.

Unfortunately, this does not help my problem at all.  Right now I am not sure what direction that I can go here. I figure that I will take and change the fluid and filter to see if that helps, and if not, then I suppose the next step is to rebuild it.

  21. Very nice update indeed!! Thanks for all of the sweet new features! Everything is really simple to navigate through. I found that to attach new images that aren't in "My Media" you have to go to "More Reply Options" and through that you can attach new images. It has a place for it and everything! Overall, I am very pleased with this update, and I look forward to continuing to use it!  :)

P.S.: I really enjoy the like button and the added emojis.  B)
