  1. Thanks, did not realize price is required. It's $19,846 and the price is listed on the web site. There is also a 54 commander @ 26,804; but the two Golden Hawks are already sold. Ken, Deltville, Va
  2. Someone asked for and I have posed underside pics of the GT Hawk, Ken Deltaville, Va
  3. What lube goes in Saginaw power steering lower primary gear box? It's in a 1954 Studebaker, if that makes any difference? Ken, Deltaville, Va
  4. The inside diameter is 1/16" smaller than the original hose inside diameter. Ken
  5. A nearby vendor has made a new pressure hose for the 1954 Studebaker Starliner PS, but on the return hose can only match fittings by using a 1/16 (inside diameter) smaller hose. They are not certain if the 1/16th reduction would be a problem? Their specialty is industrial hydraulics and they are not familiar with car PS, especially one this old. Ken
  6. Neither Lares nor powersteering.com sell Saginaw parts. They want to rebuild unit, which, in this case is 1954 PS/steering box, and it is very heavy. Found local repair but they need parts. Lares has done other much lighter units and they do good work. Is there a vendor or person who will sell parts? Ken
  7. http://kenmotorsports.blogspot.com/ but google studebakers forever should get the same thing. let me know if that works. Neither my kids nor grand kids have an interest in these cars so I'm selling all abut a few of them. Four have already been sold. Ken
  8. I have often wondered the issue and have decided (notwithstanding the technical differences) that the car advertisers might have decided that an AWD Cadillac sounds better to its customers than a 4WD Cadillac. Years ago Chrysler got a lot of miles out of Corinthian leather.
  9. This is a very well done 1963 Studebaker GT Hawk; completed in 2012, with about 90 miles since; just about everything was replaced/overhauled with no short cuts, no pop rivets, and no Bondo covering rust. Google "studebakers forever" for full details.
  10. Does anyone have a recommendation for someone to repair/rebuild/overhaul a 1950's Saginaw steering box and power steering pump? It's in a 1954 Studebaker (if that make any difference) and works well, but may be dripping fluid. It is understood that parts are difficult to find and may not available. Ken Neither Lares nor Powersteering.com will sell Saginaw parts, they want to rebuild entire unit, which would probably cost more to ship than their labor cost. This is a very heavy unit and I found local repair but parts are hard to find. Lares has done other PS unit and they do good work. Does any vendor sell parts? Ken
  11. If anyone has a picture of a correct radiator cap mascot (ornament) for a 1935 President, could you please forward and advise if different 1935 President models had different ornaments? Ken
  12. 1. Does anyone know if the top radiator part (cap) is available? 2. How is the headliner supported at top and on sides? Have experience with 1954 to 63 model headliners but not for 1935 model, is it the same basic idea? Ken, Deltaville, Va
  13. I have not seen a Taterfield dual car manifold before and would like to know how rare they might be and how difficult to maintain. Pro and cons? Ken
  14. Can an electric fuel pump be wired to the "start" position of the ignition switch wiring? Electric pump would be used ONLY to "prime" and start the engine, whereupon mechanical would take over. Or should electric pump be on separate wiring with its own switch? Ken
  15. Several recent car TV shows have been hawking VR-12 cooling system protection; it claims, among many things, that it improves heat transfer for up to a 30 degree reduction. Has anyone had experience with this stuff. A 30 degree reduction in heat on one of my "hot" Studebakers would be great. Ken
  16. I have tried that, and other outreach, but I was trying to get input from Studebaker folks (particularly antique owners), who, in general, have always provided excellent forum support. Hopefully someone who has experience in this area will share their knowledge.
  17. After many years of original restoration of Studebaker hard tops, am considering doing a hot rod and would like to know if the profile of late 1930' coupes are roughly the same. 1936 President roof line, grill, and body profile looks pretty good (from pictures) for hot rod but have not seen any Studebakers of this era in person. Input would be appreciated.
  18. It's US made according to the stamp on the base.
  19. My 1954 Studebaker started to discharge for no apparent reason and stayed in discharge when engine was stopped and ignition key turned off. Disconnected the generator wire connection at the voltage regulator and discharge stopped. Battery was run down, but OK after charge. The voltage regulator was replaced thinking that may be problem as it looked like contact was stuck. Generator charged properly until engine got hot, then went to discharge. Would generator be culprit? Hate to think of trying to get it rebuilt, as most rebuilders in area are out of business from China imports. Ken, Deltaville, Va
  20. Help resolve question as to "correct" carb for 1971 250 cu Nova with automatic. Vendor supplied rebuilt carb that does not match original in two respects. 1. Vendor carb does not have a vacuum port for 1/4" line going to tranny, original carb has this connection in the throttle body; their solution is to split off another vacuum connection, but those are smaller lines and it is not original. 2. The replacement carb does not contain the idle compensator valve assembly; their solution to this is carb does not need it, and it will just create future problems. Pic of original and replacement carb is attached. What say you guys, is it a keeper (per vendor advice) or should I shop elsewhere?
  21. What fluid is used for a Paxton NOVI 2000 (circa 1994-20000 supercharger? Current owners manual (from internet) calls for 4oz of "Paxton fluid", but that is from much newer manual and NOVI 2000 might be different. Older Paxton's (1957 and 1963 Studebakers) use Ford ATF fluid but not sure if that's OK for NOVI 2000. Ken, Deltaville, Va.
  22. Most manuals call for engine to be warm to hot for compression test. Does anyone have a best guess estimate of what per cent difference between cold vs warm/hot. For example 125 cold might be ___145____ when tested warm/hot. Ken Thanks to all, I got my answer.
  23. Three frame off Studebakers for sale. See details at "studebakers forever"
  24. If anyone is interested in show quality Studebakers, this Virginia collection if offering up 1954 Starliner, 1956 Golden Hawk, and a 1963 GT Hawk. Google "studebakers forever" for details.
