  1. You're welcome! My first car was a white 1962 Monza coupe with a red interior and four speed. My most recent Corvair was a 1964 Monza convertible which I owned for 20 years. It went away about a year ago. I have lots of great Corvair memories. All I have left at the moment are the service and assembly manuals for the '64 and other related materials and memorabilia, etc. I always wanted to get an early model Spyder or late model Corsa, but chances of that are diminishing. I'm at the stage in life where the sofa style seats and four doors of the '56 Olds in my avatar makes entering and exiting a vehicle easier for us and our friends.

  2. Here are a few other resources for you. Larry Claypool is a long time well known Corvair mechanical specialist who runs the Vair Shop in Illinois (www.vairshopcom). Also, Bill Cotrefeld in Vermont is a well known long time Corvair restorer (www.cotrefeldautomotive.com). Using my Corvair resources, I've located a few closer to where your car is located. I don't know anything about them, however. Avery Corvairs (www.averycorvairs.com) and Shepard Corvair (www.shepardauto.com) located in North Carolina. Also, Stinger Motor Sports in Virginia (stingermotorsports@cox.net). You can also check out the Corvair Forum to chat with other Corvair owners about your issue. Great looking car! I'm partial to the black exterior and red interior combo. I hope you have a lot of years of driving pleasure with it.

  3. Jerks are found on all ends of the human spectrum. Bottom feeders (the term is rather derogatory, so I don't like using it) can be some of the nicest kindest people you ever meet. Maybe they don't look clean shaven, or talk well, but they are human, and usually humble. Anyone can be a jerk.

    Amen!

  4. This is the second posting on the Grand Rapids, MI Craig's List for this car. I posted it on this forum in mid April under the heading of 1956 Buick Super 2 door hardtop. Price has remained the same, but seller now seems a bit more open to offers.

  5. Our car club (Grand Rapids Antique Car Club) visited a local Assisted Living Facility to display our cars and share an enjoyable lunch with the residents. I drove my 1956 Olds Super 88. We have several visits to similar facilities scheduled for the upcoming driving season.

  6. I have an answer for my inquiry. In the absence of new info, I took a chance with applying max heat from the heat gun for a longer period of time. I used a small dental pick to get behind the mirror glass and was able to separate it from the attachment points in the head. The mirror came out intact with no damage to the silvering. Now with some careful drilling and thread tapping, I should be able to make a repair to the head's anchor assembly. My thanks to all who looked at the posting.

  7. I have a fender mirror that I believe was factory installed on my 1956 Oldsmobile. The head has separated from the base due to the female threaded portion of the head breaking off. I have not been able to find an exact replacement so I'd like try to make a repair. This requires removing the mirror glass from the head. Realizing that the mirror glass may fracture, what is the best way to get the glass loose from the head? I've tried a heat gun but have been hesitant to apply too much heat due to not knowing if I risk damaging the chrome finish of the head Any helpful hints regarding removal process would be greatly appreciated.

  8. The Gilmore Car Museum in Hickory Corners, Michigan has a great collection of cars located in double-tiered red barns on a large campus in a country setting. New buildings with marque specific cars have recently been built, are currently under construction, or are in the planning stage. You'll not be disappointed.

  9. My first car was a white 1962 Chevy Corvair Monza coupe with a red interior and a four speed. Unfortunately, I don't have any pictures of the car. With its rear engine and rear wheel drive, it was great in the Michigan winters.

  10. Update: Apparently the answer to this question is a resounding YES !! Thanks for all the great responses from folks across the country, Canada and abroad. Wow. Please keep them coming !

    Previous post :

    Yes, there are Corvair forums but wondering if we have any Corvair owners who chime in on this forum. And if so , are you actively involved perhaps a member of a CORSA chapter?

    At this time, I own two. A 1965 Corvair Corsa 180 turbocharged coupe that I drive and show. And I have a 1966 Corvair Monza coupe 110 auto with a/c that is a project.

    Hope to hear all about yours or any stories you have, experiences you've had with Corvairs. Thanks

    Larry=Albuquerque, New Mexico

    :) I have a 1964 Monza convertible that I've owned for 20 years. I've been a member of CORSA and its Chapter 495 (West Michigan Corvair Club) for the same amount of time. Our club will be hosting the CORSA National Convention next summer on July 16-19, 2013 in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Part of the venue will be the Gilmore Car Museum, a nationally renown CCCA Museum. Check out the CORSA website for details.
