  1. Happy New Year Everyone, I just booked my room for the 2016 Spring Special Meet at the Quality Inn in Auburn, They said they have parking for my Trailer & Truck, But I was wondering if it would be better to just park the enclosed 24 ftTrailer at the Auctions America for the 3 day's, this way I don't have to drag it around, also is there security and has anyone had any problems parking it the whole time, Thursday thru Saturday for the show....Thanks STEVE M
  2. I have For Sale 2 NOS sealed in the boxes AC Guide 6 Volt T3 Headlights... $30 each plus shipping Email me at: smav@charter.net Thanks STEVE M
  3. Thanks Robert for the info, I have hooked up the trailer twice and put the truck in twice, since I got the trailer in august, I have hooked up everything properly with some advise from a fellow TOWER, I purshased straps from MACS and they work perfect, I use axle straps with a protective sheeve, these have the hooks that are next to the handle for easy ratcheting down by the floor, I also cross my straps in the rear, the truck doesn't even budge, the winch works well, but I still wish I had a side door.....not much room along side my truck to get to the steering wheel...I will have to see what the cost of putting a side door would be..I also inflate the tires to there COLD MAX pressure when towing, I feel comfortable with the setup I have for towing, I just have to watch the other guy and I will have to walk in to Mcdonald's for my Senior Coffee from now on........
  4. Robert, I need to re phrase the GVWR on my truck, it is 9000lbs according to the door sticker, what I meant to say is it is rated to pull 20000lbs ... mine has the HO diesel Auto 4 speed, 4x4 4 door short box, here are the specs http://dodgeram.info/2004/load-tow/2500.html
  5. Well, I went and had my truck in the trailer weighed yesterday at the Scales and it came to 7400 ilbs, a total of 15020 lbs with the dodge truck, It's good to have a piece of mind knowing what the weight is just in case I do get pulled over in some other state, I'm at a good weight limit for the tow rig I have, the truck GVWR is 20000lbs and the trailer rating is 10000lbs, the class IV hitch I have is rated ro 12000lbs and 1200lb tongue weight with an equalizer hitch, I have the tongue weight set at 760lbs with the 56 chevy inside, it tows very nice behind the dodge, I do want to put a sway bar on before I head to Auburn next year.....
  6. Thanks Marty, I'm shooting for the Auburn show next May, hope to meet you also...STEVE
  7. Robert, I'm going to load up my truck in the trailer tommorrow and get it weighed monday morning just to know for sure, I will let you know next week what she weighs out....STEVE
  8. Hi Robert, I checked the sticker and it say's 10000lbs for the GVWR I understand more now with the difference in Class IV receivers and Class V recievers, I did check all the welds on my reciever and there is no evidence of cracking, the fellow that had the truck before me used a 5th wheel setup, so the receiver on my truck has seen little use, the rating from the manufacture puts it at 12000lbs and 1200 tongue weight with an equalizer hitch setup, otherwise it's recommended for 5000lbs and 500lb tongue weight with out a equalizer hitch, going by what the trailer from the manufacture weighs and what my 56 weighs from the manufacture, I should be between 7500lbs & 8000lbs, I went with a 760 lb tongue weight and it towed nicely, I'm going to try and get the whole unit weighed before I put the trailer up..
  9. It is a 2 5/16 12000 lb ball equalizer hitch setup, I have the proper tung weight and have hauled my truck in the trailer already and it tows very nice, The Diesel loves to pull it, I just have to get a sway bar put on, I may check and see what the cost of a drivers side door would be to have installed, it was tight along side my truck to turn the steering wheel at times to guide it in the truck..
  10. My 1956 Chevrolet 3100 1/2 ton .....10 year restoration.....started in 2001 Going for my 1st Junior at Auburn 2016 and I succeeded!!!! Next year going for the Senior Award....:)
  11. Well, I finally got a good Tow Setup, I found this 2004 Dodge 2500 SLT with a Cummins Diesel, I also found a Basic 2012 Haulmark transport 24ft for towing my 56 Chevy Pickup, I got the trailer 2 weeks a go and pulled it home over some hills in cruise control, unbelievable the power of the cummins engine, my Dodge has only 94000 miles and was taken to florida every year, so there is no rust except some slight bubbling over the rear wheel wells, a common problem in the dodge trucks, but this truck is a real keeper, I should have bought one 10 years ago, the trailer came with a 6000lb winch with remote, and sway bar setup with a 10000 lb receiver, the trailer has LED lighting, 5200lb axles, leaf springs and it was stored indoors, this setup was just what i was looking for and happened all in one weekend, sold my Chevy 1.2 ton the friday before, so for $18,000 I upgraded to a Diesel and a 3 year old trailer, thanks everyone for your feedback, LOOK OUT NEXT YEAR, heading to some shows (Auburn spring meet, St Ignace (antiques on the bay), and possibly Vintage truck show in Ohio...Should be fun and I feel safer with the Diesel 3/4 ton...
  12. I plan on heading over to the Hagerty Headquarters in Traverse city next wednesday and sign a paper to exclusively go thru Hagerty and not thru my farm bureau insurance co. I also plan on taking updated pics of my truck and get at least a $50,000 Agreed Value on the truck, so far it's insured for $48,000 for what the NADA states, I only plan on driving the truck on very nice day's and alway's being with it, not for everyday use, if I put the Michigan Historical plate on it the insurance would be less but I'm taking a chance with the Police, If I go to shows I can put my 56 truck plate on for looks.....Since we only have a small amount of time left before the weather turns for the worst, I will probrably wait till next spring to venture out, next week the drive way gets black topped also, having a gravel driveway is not good for getting out with the truck, it should be driven a small amount each year, when I get closer to retirement ( 6 1/2 years) I may consider an enclosed trailer to go to the AACA shows when I have more time and not having to work.....Rooney3100
  13. Yes, I have spoken to Hagerty about an agreed value, I have to send them more pics of the truck, I did talk with grundy and they said no problem on the agreed value of $60,000, I just have to fill out forms and send pics, they were supposed to e-mail me the forms but I haven't recieved them, it's been about 2 weeks, I will have to call back, I really want to find out from all you folks about the service and reliability of the insurance company's that everyone has at the moment....or has had....Thanks....Rooney3100 (STEVE)
  14. I'm looking forward to having the pleasure of driving my 56 chevy truck in the near future and would like some advise or comments to how the Different insurance companies out there have treated everyone on either claims or service, I currently have Hagerty insurance with just storage at the moment, as the book value goes up I just call them to raise it to that level, I will be getting a regular Michigan plate because I can drive the car at any time, if I use a 56 plate or historical plate I can only drive it to shows, which I don't want....I would like insure the vehicle for what I have in it which is around $60,000, the high NADA book value as of today is at $48,000, If in case something should happen to the truck and I have to have it fixed to the condition to which the truck is now, that leads to my question.....(Which Insurance company should I trust and deal with)....Rooney3100
  15. I do use the ethonal free gas in my truck, I also had the hardened valve seats installed, I would be interested in your space age chevrolet region.....Here is my e-mail smav@charter.net send some info.....Rooney3100
