  1. My Wife & I drove all the way out to Colorado in 2000 from upper michigan to buy a 56 GMC with a V8 auto trans, we did this before I found my 56 chevy truck from Oregon, when we got there 24 hours later strait thru, it looked as thou the guy owned the whole town, he even had a car museum, his name was on everything, seems funny that when I asked questions on the phone he would alway's say Yes & No that's it, never ran into anyone like that, anyway when we got over there to look at the truck and buy it for $6000.00 he lied about everything, the front end was out of wack from hitting something, the oil in the motor was as black as Tar, it did run and it was pretty original, when we went to test drive it, it wouldn't even shift out of first gear, the front end also started to shake vigorously, I even took a tow bar to tow it home, We were so P!!!od at the guy I wanted to ring his neck about not telling me the truth and spending our time and money to go and get this truck, he sat there not even bothered, looked as thou he does this alot to people, the few pictures he sent me hid all the problems, espesially the front bumper and fender being out of wack, I wanted to get a truck similiar to the 1957 GMC I had in Arizona back in 1980, it was green with a 4 speed, it wasn't a good start to finding an original task force truck, what a long trip that was and a big waste of our money......Moral Of The Story Is......If someone is selling something and doesn't answer your questions correctly or doesn't send a lot of updated pictures, just let the deal go......Rooney3100
  2. If at all possible & you have the money, Get a good original vehicle to start with and do a complete restore yourself, I did most of the work on my truck and had good people do the mechanics on the driveline & Body work & seat reapolstered, all the rest I did myself, I searched for as many NOS parts as possible, cleaned up the original parts and documented the restoration with lots of pictures.......I would not do another one thou (Because of the time & Money at this time in my life), but I'm very proud of what I accomplished on my 56 Chevy Truck restoration, I tried very hard to cover every detail and assembled it as close as possible with the GM 1956 Assembly manual, the only problem is I don't want to drive it at this time, it needs to go to shows for awhile and then when I retire it will get driven, I used to have a 1957 GMC shortbox that I drove in Arizona back in the early 80's and had lots of fun with it, I should have never sold it. I live in a small town and I was still able to get this done, alot of my parts went out of state to get completed by professionals. So if I were going to buy a restored Vehicle, I would want it done to my standards of a very good restoration, especially when you are spending the cost of money these day's restoring a vehicle......ROONEY3100

  10. Merry Christmas Everyone...... Well.....Here is my New Shoes For Christmas on my 1956 Chevy Truck.......I couldn't pull the truck completely outside because of Ice & Snow in my driveway........These are original to the truck so I won't have to worry about any points deducted on this topic anymore........Rooney3100 As soon as the driveway pad is cleared off, I can take better pics outside..........
  11. Hi Susan, When I read what Rick Marsh had wrote on this subject I assumed he is saying the there were 6.70-15 Blackwall Bias tires made in other places other than Universal tire, I wrote in a previous thread that I checked all the tire places for what I needed and they were not available in 2001, so I purchased the 7.00-15 tires, now they make 5 different styles of 6.70-15 blackwall tires, so I assumed that since Rick wrote the message, so I thought that I neeeded to find the correct tires or get points deducted, Sorry about the misunderstanding, I'm having my new tires put on Monday, the Tire issue is not an issue for me anymore..................THANKS Rooney3100
  12. Thanks Matthew, I wasn't sure on that as i did not see that mentioned, anyway I have the tire issue covered, my tires arrived yesterday, Thanks for all the Help everyone on clarifing the Tire Size & Point deduction catagory................Rooney3100
  13. So what you are saying Susan is that tire size does not matter? My New Bias Tires 6.70-15 Firestones Arrived today, they wil look real nice & original to the truck and I don't have to worry about any deductions on this subject at all........I just have to find someone that may want my 700-15 Universal Bias tires which are in very nice condition and have not seen the pavement.......Thanks.......Rooney3100
  14. I have a whole bunch of NOS Subaru parts the I aquired from an old Pontiac Gmc dealership awhile back, these parts I believe fit 1970 thru 1981 Subaru's, does anyone need any, there is switches, sheetmetal, bumpers, tail lamps, to much to list, may sell it all as a whole lot.....I don't have the books at this time to look up the numbers as I thought about selling on e-bay.........I can take pics if needed.......Thanks STEVE M email....... smav@charter.net
  15. Whoops, Sorry Matthew I was thinking points not the area the points were deducted......Thanks for catching that......I will be a helpful fact to now thou about the tires....Thanks Rooney3100
  16. Well I bit the Bullet and ordered 5 New Bias Firestone 6.70-15 Blackwall tires for my 56 Chevy Truck, I will post a picture of the truck when I get them on........ Zimmroe, thanks for inquiring about this topic, can you let me know what the deduction is for your tire size if they did take some deductions for them.....Also can you send me some pics of your 55 Chevy? smav@charter.net it's alway's nice to meet another truck buff THANKS Rooney3100
  17. Thanks Everyone for the replies, I will have to bite the bullet on this one and go with some New tires as my tires have never seen the road and are in very nice shape, these can be used for someone's trailer.... I will go with the 4ply this time to get the tread pattern a little closer together so when I do decide to ever drive my truck, the stones from my driveway will not get stuck between the tread and fly all underneath, I was going to someday pave my 400 ft drivaway, but this will be alot cheaper, now that I can purchase NEW BLACKWALL 6.70-15 Tires in the 4ply tread pattern it will look real nice on my truck, this is what I wanted in the first place as my truck did come originally with this style of tire as Standard.... Since I put lots of effort in trying to do a Correct Restoration I better make sure and cover all the judging bases to have a real nice truck for the ACCA shows, I believe I have what it takes to be in an AACA avent, as soon as January 2013 gets here I will sign up for a member ship and follow the instructions for getting my truck to the events ........ROONEY3100
  18. Thanks Susan for the Reply.....Rooney3100

  24. Your right Susan, It could make or break me getting an award, I understand the tires being Bias ply for the year need to be correct for judging and I hope the size being 1 size off is OK, because when I purchased them (12 years ago) and I could not get the right size in Black wall, No manufacture I found had blackwall in 6.70-15, My tires are a 6ply commercial truck tires from Universal Tire, My 56 Chevy Salesman's truck data book showed that standard was the 4 ply & 6 ply was an option, also All my tires match , even the spare............Rooney3100
