  1. I would suspect a leaky needle and seat in the carburetor. You might start trying to isolate the culprit by running the engine then shutting it off. Then disconnect the vacuum line at the intake manifold and disconnect the fuel line to the carburetor to see if unwanted flow is occurring. Monitor this for a period after shutoff.

I cannot see how the heat riser tube could be a factor in what you are describing.

  2. In similar instances I have put the car on jack stands with suspension relaxed, put as much pressure as possible with a grease gun and then heat with a torch. I would avoid overheating the arm as that's not a throw away part. If that doesn't work remove cap and dig out hardened grease.

I am assuming that you have removed the zerk and dug out as much old grease as possible.

  3. The manual describes most everything in terms of amps. My problems is high volts when operating. I can see 9.5-10 volts at driving speed. I checked actual volts after I started losing the lighting bulbs. I wanted to try to disable the 3rd brush as an attempt to lower the volts.

  4. Hello. I have an overcharging condition with my 1929 Buick charging system . I have adjusted the 3rd brush as far as possible yet the overcharging persist. At the moment I would rather not remove the generator for repair. Has anyone disabled the 3rd brush completely. I can clearly see the resistor. Will removing the resistor prevent the stepped up charging?

  5. More than likely carburetor blockage. If your car has the original carb be aware that it is super fragile. They crack very easily. The potmetal used was about as bad as it gets. Heat riser sleeve is a possibility. As far as the settings, you can always count the turns, as you screw the settings in to bottom, then record. I can usually reuse my gaskets each time. If not they are easy to make. I check the flapper clearances and movement while I am in there. Occasionally a float will no longer float. I dont adjust the float unless necessary.
