  1. I have done this a few times. I found a set of NOS grills and tail light bezels for a 1962 Cutlass but they come with a car. I went thinking I would offer him a large amount for just the NOS parts. I did not want the car. I offered much more than I thought the parts were worth because I did not want the work of dealing with the car. He made me buy all of it. Lucky for me, I got it home and found it had the super rare anti spin rear end in the car. I ended up selling the rear end for nearly as much as I bought the entire car and parts for, lol.

Glad to hear, but I hope he'll consider wearing a face shield going forward when lighting his steam cars.

He was not actually starting it from what I understood. They were working on the car trying to figure out a fuel problem, likely the same problem it had back in January I mentioned above. Still a valid point though. I know I do things with gas that I know full well I should not do. I will not get under a car without proper support but then I turn around and use gas as a cleaner all the time. I guess I had best use this as a reason to rethink some of the things I do.

  3. The news reports are all over the place on what car it was. Jay took my family out for a drive in his 1907 White back in January. Of all things, we broke down on the side of the road. There was a fuel problem and it backfired out of the steam generator and the flame was at the nozzle and not inside the steam generator. We had to stop and work on it and was able to limp the car back to the garage under low steam pressure. I text him a few days ago wishing him well and that we were praying for a speedy recovery. He text me back and confirmed it was the 1907 that he took us for a ride in that he was working on. Jay is such a wonderful person and a treasure to the automotive and motorcycle community.

It's PolarMotion, a low tech animation method used in displays and exhibits,  A wheel with a polarized film on it, spins behind the face of the display.  On the face of the display, various polarizing films have been attached in a pattern that works with the wheel to produce the effect.  You can see the wheel revolving behind the glass or acrylic in, in the video.  This was much used back in the 60's and 70's, not so much nowadays.

Great information! This makes since and should be easy to make then. One way or another I will make this work. This does have an acrylic layer on the back side that separates from the front. I don't have their pictures yet but hope to soon.

  5. Does anyone have a similar sign that make it look like the light is moving? If so could you take pictures of the inside for me? I just acquired the front to one of these signs and want to build the light box for it. I know there is a wheel and motor inside but have no idea how it works. Any information you have for this would be great! I know they made these for the Jetaway transmission, this Jetfire sign and a couple others.

  6. Very nice car! That posi rear end is very rare for these cars. I just picked one up that someone put 3.90 gears in. I plan to put it in my Jetfire for a while to try the 3.90 gears.

Does your glove box door have a decal on the inside about the car having a posi. When a car come with them they would have had this sticker unless it was pulled off. Obviously, yours would have Buick on it

Although Corvette cannot be described as a high-volume car from the C5 on until the midship car, the concept of engine in the front and transaxle in the rear could not be described as conventional but is considered successful. At least the concept survives today in Corvette, and some Porsche and Mercedes cars along with turbochargers in those same cars and more. Chevrolet, Pontiac, and Oldsmobile brought those realities to the public at a very low price.

And who can forget this 1963 Tempest at the Daytona 250-mile Challenge cup anything goes invitational where this Tempest with its transaxle in the rear competed against Ferraris, Porsches, Corvettes etc. The Tempest won the race by 5 miles of its nearest competitor!

Now that is fantastic information I never knew! That is really cool! Now I need to read up on that.

  8. I am for sure open to research and more information but I would need to see this tag in person. This tag has obviously been modified. The font is not even consistent. I am not an expert on those cars at all but I have never seen a GM tag that was this inconsistent. Maybe there is an explanation to it< I have no idea. Just not what I am use to seeing in a cowl tag.

Sadly, All I have to go by are the GM heritage documents and they will not allow me to have a copy of them. Their documents show that the Corvair Spyder started production in April. Do you know of any that have an earlier production build date? I am more than willing to accept the other way around with documents but I am not sure we will ever know till we document build dates on the cars themselves or original sales paperwork. I have not checked out your link yet and will tonight. I enjoy this stuff myself. I spent an entire day at the Heritage center doing research a few years back but my larger focus was documenting Jetfire information and less of who was first.

I will say that the earliest build date I have found so far for a Jetfire is first week of April but there are not many left to document.

Or the FACT that the Corvair Spyder was THE FIRST production turbocharged American car in recent time, NOT the Olds!😲

    Read through this:

Ah, controversy of the non-political type!😁

Hey, at least Corvairs did not require Turbo Rocket fluid, so the turbocharged models stayed in production for 5 model years! Many Jetfires were de-turboed by dealers due to complaints.

Nope! I am 47 and was not there so I know, lol. Just kidding.... All I can go by are the GM Heritage center documents. There are documents that you could purchase a Jetfire early April and there is no document like this for the turbo Corvair. The only dated documents is that production started in April for the Corvair Spyder turbo. I have to assume that the Jetfire was first to purchase because the production started to late for the chevy to be sold early April. All that said, From what I understand, the Corvair Spyder concept/prototype was at the auto shows a couple months before the Jetfire prototype was. If someone can find documents to prove otherwise I would love to know about them. I sure have an open mind to the subject but at the same time, I want to keep playing this game of who was first for many more years, lol. Adds to the fun

  11. I just hate it when I misspell something or not use the proper grammar and someone jumps all over it like they are so superior. I am 47 years old and can't spell to save my life. Maybe 5th grade level. Some people are good at some things and other people are good at other things. I always wanted to see one of their restorations and start making fun of them on the flaws.

@jensenracing77 I have many fond memories of my time in Terre Haute (regardless of the smell from the old paper mill). I'm from New Jersey originally, so going to college in Indiana was a great experience, and the school taught me well, and I've put the lessons to good use professionally and in the antique car hobby.

The paper mill is long gone now so don't smell so bad these days. I am actually in Brazil, East of Terre Haute. I did not go to Rose but had a couple friends that went there. I hung out there a lot on weekends in 1992/1993

  13. I have been on both sides of this before. I chassed a 1970 442 W-30 for 20 years just to have it sold out from under me. But then I chassed a 69 442 4 speed for 13 years and ended up getting it. Been chasing a 68 442 4 speed now for 10 years and I think that one will eventually work out in the next 10 years sometime.

That sure is a cool tow truck though.
