  1. That is like 5 minutes from my house! Thanks a lot, Mike. I'll reach out to him for sure.
  2. I'm in Atlanta and looking for a local place to rebuild my transmission. I've found a couple of places, but would require I ship the transmission at probably $150 each way. Thanks, Andy
  3. Bump...does this seem like a reasonable price point? May out the car in ebay, may just keep it. Am I in the right ballpark here? Thanks
  4. Sorry. $10,900 obo. I'll update the first post. Thanks
  5. Unfortunately I have come to a point where I'm selling my 1940 Buick. I am the 3rd owner of the car, my grandpa was the 2nd owner. I have the original title. Car is all original with only maintenance done over the years to keep her going. Runs and drives great...trans leaks a bit but shifts nicely. Brakes stop straight and work well as I had them redone about 2 years ago. Super solid car, always been garaged. Listing at $10,900 or best offer. Here are some pics of the car. Its far form perfect...but for a surviver that has never had anything besides maintanance work done, it is pretty darn good shape. The paint is pitting, but as you can see, it shines up beautifully. Interior pics speak for themselves. Great weekend driver or a perfect candidate for a full restoration. Andy Email at ace.elliott12@gmail.com or call or text at 770-318-8315. Located just north or Atlanta, Ga.
  6. Ashley & Andy: Wedding Check out the slide show in the link above^^^...plenty of pics with the car! Haha...Its always something, isnt it!? I was sooo happy to get it running again!
  7. Been busy getting married an going on a honeymoon! Forgot I haven't updated this thread until I saw the latest post. I rebuilt the carb and the problem remained. Finally dropped the tank and removed the pick up line...where I found a HUGE glob of old tank sealer and trash! It looks like when my grandpa sealed the tank, way back when, some of the sealer got into the pick up line. Once I got it running again and put a tank of gas through it, that sealer picked up all of the debris in the tank and held it in the pick up line, where the fuel line connects. I blew it out and cleaned it good and the car runs like a champ! Tranny still drips a little after a drive, but nothing major. We used the car in our wedding and I've been enjoying cruising around town in it! Thanks for all of the help guys:)
  8. I don't race it. Its a low mileage car and it is in immaculate condition. I plan to keep it that way. I just love fast cars and mustangs...I've always had a thing for hot rods/blowers/cammed motors/etc...I'm just drawn to them The cobra is a blast to drive! I will definitely try them and see what they say.
  9. I may get a swami cooler if I can find a complete one on good shape on eBay...even I just to put on at shows and such. Think I'm goin to wait and see just how bad it is this summer and go from there. If I need some cooling Ive got some good ideas now, thanks for all the input guys! Andy
  10. I finally found some old swamp coolers on Ebay. Matt, I was thinking of possibly even doing the 12v battery in the trunk idea, without the alternator though. Since I would only be running the ac for short periods of time (not long enough to drain the battery), im wondering if I could keep the battery charged at home...use it on occasionally and re-charge the battery later. I would just run the wiring for the ac from the trunk, under the car and through the firewall where I could hook up a portable ac unit...Not sure how long a battery would work doing it like that though
  11. So far im thinking of putting an inverter under the dash (hidden and easily removable) and running a small portable unit that i can sit in the floor when needed. I can disconnect it and put, inverter and all, and store it in the trunk when not in use or at car shows. Just have to donsome research on portable units...there seem to be quite a few 12v portables.
  12. Do you know how hot it gets in the south eastern united states in the summer, Grant!? lol Last summer we had temps of over 100 on like 20 days straight and over 90 for 40+ days! Its misserable here in the summer...especially to get in a big, black car after its been sitting in the sun at a show or something...
  13. Anybody have on installed in their prewar buick? I assume you can get a 6v model? I want something I can take out later...but Im thinking its gonna be tough driving the 40 without ac this summer.
  14. Thanks Billy...I think I had agreed and stated confused. Thanks for clarifying, stated is for sure the way I will go. Now I just new to get an appraisal prior to shopping policies. Anyone have any advice on the late model modified stang?
  15. Additionally, does anyone know if JC Taylor or Hagerty will cover my 03 Mustang Cobra (Modified and making over 600rwhp)...it doesnt get driven much and I currently have it covered with a standard policy to the tune of around $125/month...I drive it about as much as I drive the Buick and just think that is an awfull lot to pay for insurance on a pleasure driver...Neither will probably see 1000 miles in a year.
  16. Ok guys, Im getting ready to start shopping around for new insurance policies when I move at the end of the month and I need some advice form the pros;) I currently have my 40 Buick (all original surviver car) covered for 12K through an agreed value policy. It is covered for 12K because that is what my grandpa always had it covered for so that is what we kept it at for now. As you may have seen from my other threads I am working very hard to get this car back into the shape it should be in. I have no clue what the actual value of the car is (I know value is extremely subjective, especially when dealing with these kind of cars). My concern is that in the unlikely event that the car was wrecked, I'm not so sure that 12K would cover the repairs (using NOS parts if possible). I guess I should have the car appraised and go from there? For those that havent seen it, here are some pics. I know it is next to impossible to give a decent appraisal by looking at pics, but I thought they would help for you guys to be able to tell me if you think there may be a need to raise the agreed value when I switch policies...or if 12K seems to be ok. I just worry that if somehting were to happen to it, repairs would be EXPENSIVE! Anyway...heres some pics for refference: Its far form perfect...but for a surviver that has never had anything besides maintanance work done, it is pretty darn good shape. The paint is pitting, but as you can see, it shines up beautifully. Interior pics speak for themselves. I am working on getting all of the stains out of the interior at the moment, but there are some tears, craked trim, etc. Any advice is greatly appreciated! Andy
  17. Sweet! Sounds like I need to add this to my arsenal. Thanks a lot guys...always love trying new products and techniques:)
  18. Thanks! What have you use to try to buff it out? What pads, compounds, rotary, etc?
  19. Where did you get the micro-mesh sheets? That sounds like something I new to try! I hate polishing metal with wheels and compounds...would much rather do it all by hand.
  20. I had done a little wet sanding previously, but nothing like this. I do a lot of compounding/polishing with a dual action polisher so I have a good feel for what kind of scratches I can get rid of. As long as the paint thickness is ok, 2000grit is pretty easy to buff out with the right equipment/echniques. I wouldnt jump strait into a whole car until you have done a small test area. Make sure you soak the sand paper in water, with a drop or two of dish soap for lubricant...and keep the car wet the whole time. Do a small test and then buff it out to give yourself an idea of what you can do...its not too bad though if you are pretty good with your hands. Just dont get carried away;)
  21. Getting there! Hopefully I can make a lot of progress this weekend. Thanks Grant
  22. Been working on repainting the wheels...finished up two of them today...looking better and better each day! Before: During: After:
  23. Thanks a lot Grant! Its a ton of work, but Im enjoying every minute of it. I just won Ride of the month on one of my other forums.... Here is the write up for it...it will give you a little background on the car:) For those that dont know, this 1940 Buick Special was given to me by my Grandfather earlier this year. He was the second owner of this all original surviver. As his health started to deteriorate, so did the car, unfortunately. It ended up sitting in his carport for the last 10 or so years of his life, until I had MartyO pick up the car and take it to Mo's to get it running again. Mo's worked on the car for a couple of months, chasing down little problems as they arose, and got it running just in time for me to pick it up the day before Thanksgiving! I was able to surprise my Grandparents on Thanksgiving day by picking them up in their old car and taking them to my sister's for dinner! Unfortunately that was last time I got to spend with my Grandfather, but I will forever be greatful for getting to share that experience with him:) Since then Ive continued working on the car and it is running as good as it ever has! Last weekend I started wet sanding the car and Im now working on compounding, buffing and polishing. It is really starting to look great again and I look forward to restoring some luster back to the car, while keeping it a true unrestored surviver...and even better, a driver!
