  1. No vinyl top , I have the pictures prior to the repaint since the car was all original and it had the rear deck molding. Appears they decided to leave it off after the repaint . Thanks for your input ,good to know if it did have a vinyl top that would explain why it is missing.
  2. Hello, The rear deck ribbed molding below the window was removed from previous owner after repaint . Appears the holes were welded over and by looking from inside the trunk not able to get an accurate view of where the holes were positioned. Could someone please assist to take a measurement where this molding would be positioned from the rear window chrome trim ( see attached picture ) in order to install . Thank you
  3. No issues until recently , lights come on however clamshells stuck closed position. I noticed some issues a few weeks back where I had the opposite problem where they would not shut or would only partially shut. Now the opposite , both in stuck closed position. 1) Any way to open them manually without doing any harm ? Being it was turning dark and was a few miles from home I tried to gently lift up one side however when trying to lift open the other side would then automatically close so no luck getting them to manually stay open. Any suggestions for starters ? Does this sound like a possible Relay issue ? Thanks
  4. Thanks gentlemen for the comments ,,, I just need to add the Riviera badges and will post some updated pics sometime soon . Well finally got car back from shops after almost 2 months. It needed (alot ) of attention to say the least, had some work done locally then had it fully serviced and tuned up at CENTERVILLE AUTO REPAIR NAILHEAD BUICK SPECIALIST / RUSS MARTIN who was highly recommended to service the car. The car now runs great had so much done , just to name some repairs ( new timing chain/lifters /full tune up /recurve distributor /rebuilt carb/ fuel pump /all new fluids / recore radiator/ water pump/fan clutch/tstat/hoses & gaskets /new shocks/panhard bushings/oil pan sump cleaned/ motor and trans mounts / brake adjustments and lots of other little stuff but what a difference, car runs great !! ,,,,,and another SURPRISE I had no idea after decoding engine block the car is a 425 and not a 401 like I thought it was , I guess previous owner never bothered to decode and assumed it was a 401 .The block is stamped LW 510 , which I take it is the 425 engine and not the 401 and rest of vin numbers on block match the vin . I was always curious why the air cleaner decal had wildcat 465 instead of 445 and the decal was new when engine bay was refreshed , then I looked at the original pictures of engine bay from previous owner prior to having any cleanup work done and the decal was an old faded 465 so that is what got my attention to look at the block and decode it since I just got the car back the other day after months of not having it around . Just adds a little something extra I guess for having to cough out alot of extra $$ on repairs that I didnt expect but then again car was in deep hibernation for 35 plus years so I guess its expected things will go wrong when not driven for so long . I updated my signature to 425 , here is a pic where I was able to decode , if I am wrong please inform .Now its time to drive and enjoy !
  5. right now was considering as routine maintenance while car is having a full service done however I was told it only has a little bit of play and no issues when driving so likely I will pass on it due to the cost .
  6. Thanks Jim , so around $350 or so ? I was quoted $700 that blew me away so I figured if its its only a slight play to just leave alone .
  7. Wow , I guess what I was quoted was about right . Lucikly there is only tiny amount of play in the u joint however while I had it in for service I thought why not have it replaced but I will pass on that with the cost involved since I was told it was still fine and no need to replace it.
  8. Could anybody give me an approx cost to replace both u joints in 65' Riviera ? Looking to have this done locally at a shop & I was given some crazy figures that blew me away.
  9. Thanks gentlemen for the replies, Tom I will try that out . I also found out there was a crack in the cannister and previous owner tried to repair with epoxy . Is this Vaccum Cannister readily available anywhere or is there a better solution to repair it other than epoxy ?
  10. I have noticed no airflow from any of the vents. Vents are in open position , nothing from center as well . A/C compressor works noticed tubes started to freeze over in engine bay after a short drive wondering why no air flow into cabin . Could this be vacuum related ? I noticed the trunk T bar release in glovebox also does not work and read something about a vacuum cannister .
  11. Thanks everyone for the welcome. Marty , regarding the tires the invoices show they are radial 235/75/15 diamond back II riviera 3 stripe ordered from diamond back classics (Diamond Back Classic Radial Tires )
  12. car just arrived 65' RIV 425 ASTRO BLUE/ STD BLUE ORIG INT / A/C ,PWR DS /VACUUM TRUNK RLSE 35k documented orig miles original motor/drivetrain ect..New astro blue repaint Excited but a little nervous . First time ever on unseen purchase and hope I made the right choice .Car was in deep hibernation over 30 plus years from early 70's until 05' . Original owner had car since new from 1965 until 2005 when it was sold to 2nd owner . Proper basics were done on it in 05' to get it running however sat garaged not driven much from 05 ' since it wasnt really mechanically roadworthy until new owner took over this spring and invested in tires ,engine bay detail , new exhaust /brake system/coolant flush/Tstat /rubber hoses/oil/plugs/points/fuel pump /water pump , new trunk liner ,as well as repaint orig astro blue. Doesnt appear carb has been rebuilt nor trans fluid changed and still orig radiator. During my first (6) miles of driving noticed the following: car stalled once at red light at mile 3 and car does pull to the left quit a bit. The dummy HOT light came on at mile 6 as I was pulling into my garage however it turned off once I restarted about 5 minutes later and stayed off after idling for a few minutes . Likely need to get this in for an inspection ASAP before anymore driving . Was hoping to have no issues on my first day but anything can happen .Any suggestions on the trouble areas mentioned and what other things I should consider at this stage . ********Update about 50 miles later ,,,,had the car partially inspected and will be going in for a further inspection and solid tune up next week . Likely need to have the radiator re cored . After that I hope to take a nice long drive and start enjoying .
  13. Thanks , aside from oil change and fuel lines apparently the owner flushed cooling system ,changed all brake fluids, new brakes, master cyl , ,plugs, points, belts and has driven several months around 200 plus miles with no leaks or problems. Nothing is a guarantee however I was informed most major problems would have shown up in the first 20 -30 miles of driving after it has sat for so many years garaged . Could it appear this may be a solid car without possible major headaches coming my way ?
  14. considering purchase on 65 riviera 401 , car apparently around 40k orig miles was sitting garaged 30 plus years , original motor & trans owner got it running replacing the basics ( brakes, belts, tires ect.. ) and has put on a few hundred miles with no problems however the transmission fluid was not changed. A 3rd party test drove informed me car shifts smooth no problems and engine runs strong . What I am getting into if transmission fluid was not changed however other fluids were or any other certain headaches I could likely face right away or could it actually be a solid running car after sitting 30 plus years ?
