  1. I need to replace my 67 s black carpet with an OE style setup. what is in there now is not OE ( cheap worn out shag). I would assume it should be a loop style replacement. Any suggestions on suppliers with the best replacement? Thanks
  2. I just picked up a 71 Base Riviera with interior 668 (Black). The seats (bench) need to redone in the expanded vinyl but it doesn't seem readily available compared to the Deluxe. Is this just something that can be recreated by any interior shop or are there kits available? Thanks in advance
  3. I am looking at a 65 35 miles north of Ann Arbor (approx) and would like to see if there is someone either local or somewhat close that could do a full Pre Purchase Inspection (PPI) on the car which would also include a leak-down/compression test of the motor. While it would be great to have somebody that is familiar with first gen Rivieras it isn't a must. Obviously I dont expect this to be done for free. Thanks
  4. Fan was what came with the car and the same with the battery orientation ( I will look at addressing that). The Hirsch paint seemed to work out quite well IMO.
  5. New Freeze Plugs, Timing Chain, oil and fuel pump, water pump and so on. Zero sludge anywhere. Looks like the motor was pulled and refreshed judging by the condition (and the bad freeze plugs). Painted with the Hirsh green paint. Runs strong but still some vacuum and carb tweaking. Project 6 of 32 🙂
  6. No. The car sat for 25 years (climate controlled storage) and looks like the head gaskets are relatively new and the Plugs are not OE. They look like cheap Dorman ones that were installed incorrectly and being an AZ car that water (and not coolant) was in the system. Did a new water pump and timing chain (and a bunch other stuff) to bring it out of hibernation. If someone can give me non-theoretical advice on how to do the fronts it would be a life saver.
  7. So can I get to the front two plugs by lifting the motor a bit as if I'm doing the oil pan? That would reduce the while we are at it syndrome:)🙂
  8. So it looks like I have to pull the motor out of my 65 (401) Riv. The front two freeze plug are leaking (actually all were) and I cant see a way around not fully pulling the motor to replace them. I did get the correct ones from Russ BTW. Since I am probably pulling the motor I am engaging in "while we are at it" syndrome. I will definitely be doing the heater core from the bay side and detailing the engine compartment. However, I'm considering having the motor rebuilt to stock specs since it is out anyway-- though it doesn't seem to have any real issues. This would be well outside of my mechanical abilities and time resources and ,therefore, I would have someone else do it. I'm in MN. Are there any recommendations of a local shop that is capable? Or Should I resign myself to Tom Telesco or Russ Martin, and ship the engine. Has anyone done this recently, and if so what was the cost and time-frame? Thanks in advance
  9. Thanks, your car is spectacular. My research regarding the engine paint was the same. Slightly off (but it seems to be a one year phenomena).
  10. It looks like I may need to pull my 401 to put new freeze plugs in. Since the engine will be completely out it will one of those "while we are at" it projects. I was thinking about detailing the motor and bay. I have the Hirsch Green for the motor. What will replicate the satin black of the inner fenders and such. I would like to get back to as close to OEM. I was thinking of doing the Heater core from the firewall too. Any other thoughts about low hanging fruit since the engine is out? Thanks in advance.
  11. I take it the material that is in my 1965 is not the correct interior cloth and that the SMS is what the car actually came with off the line. Any input would be greatly appreciated. If you have the optional interior cloth photos would be great. Thanks in advance.
