  1. I just received my newly purchased rim jack and am looking for the proper steps to remove the tire from the rim and then to reinstall the tire and tube. One concern is how much can I collapse the rim without damaging it. Thanks for your comments & instructions. Dale
  2. Thanks for the feedback Bill. What manufacturer of trailer did you end up going with?
  3. I am in the process of purchasing an enclosed car trailer to haul a 1915 Touring Car. The total length of car is 160" (13', 4"). The total height of the car with the touring top in the up position is 83". I have a number of questions for the seasoned experts. 1. Would a 20' trailer with a V nose be large enough to haul this car. I am uncertain how much extra space is required to tie down the axles and what the optimum angle for the tie downs would be? 2. Would it be best to transport this vehicle with the touring top in up position? If so, I would have to order a trailer to allow for the additional height? 3. Do most folks leave the tops up when transporting their vehicles? Thank you so much for your input. I appreciate your thoughts and knowledge. Best regards, Dale

  6. Just interested in knowing up to what car number would you consider a very early 14/15?
  7. Just wondering about the numbering system for the condition of a vehicle. Is a 4 - 5 car based out of 10? 10 being the best? I have heard some folks refer to a near perfect example of a restored vehicle as being a #1. Is there a common standard that is usually used? Thanks for the opportunity to learn from the experts. Best regards, Dale
  8. I came across this wonderful video that I thought would be of interest to Dodge Brother enthusiasts. Hope you enjoy! National Film Preservation Foundation: Dodge Motor Cars (ca. 1917) Dale
  9. Hello Bob, Pardon my inexperience but What does "top shelf IMO" mean? Do you know when the collection was sold & who handled the sale? Do you know if there is documented historical data of that sale? Thanks for your input Bob. DCE
  10. Hello Robert, Thanks so much for your comments. When you purchased the vehicles did Harrah's provide any provenance? For the restored Garford did they provide history as to what work was done? Example: Photos through the restoration process, what materials etc were used etc. Thanks DCE
  11. I am interested in hearing the opinions out there with respect to the quality of restoration that was performed by the technicians of Harrah's automobile restoration shop. If anyone has acquired a vehicle from this collection I would be very interested in hearing from you. Thanks DCE
  12. To quote the "The Motor Car Production Records Dodge Brothers Inc." 1915 Series Car # 1 to 370 covers the period Nov 1914 to December 31, 1914 Car # 371 to 10,000 covers the period January 1, 1915 to May 30, 1915 Car # 10,001 to 18,157 covers the period May 31 1915 to June 30, 1915 1916 Series Car # 18,158 to 19,999 covers the period July 1, 1915 to July 18, 1915 Car # 20,000 to 29,999 covers the period July 19, 1915 to September 16, 1915 etc. My question is would Car # 19,000 be more correctly called a 1915 or 1916? From a calender perspective it was manufactured in July of 1915. However, if manufactured on or after July 1, of any given year is it more correctly described as a vehicle of the following year? It appears on July 1 of each year the series of vehicle changes. Just wanted clarification on this. Thanks for you help. Dale
  13. Did anyone see the 1909 Oldsmobile X3 Touring at Hershey this year. The gentleman who owned this vehicle was from Toronto. I believe he was in the Green field or North Chocolate field. Does anyone know this gentleman's name? I had a nice chat with him & he seemed to be a great source of information. I would like to contact him again but do not have his contact information.
  14. I am looking for some information that was posted in a thread I started some time ago. I have referred to the information in this thread in the past however am unable to find it now. Has this history been deleted or do I just need advise on where to look. The thread was what primer to use on metal? Your help is appreciated. Best regards, Dale
  15. Just booked flights to attend the my first AACA fall meet in Hershey. I understand the Dodge Brothers Club has a dinner function. How does one go about getting tickets and information on this. Thanks for your help. Dale
  16. The autobody shops I have spoken to have very little advice when it relates to the type of primer I should use for wooden wheels. The business that is manufacturing / rebuilding the wooden spoked wheels have asked that I deliver all metal components in the primed state. Once the wheels have been rebuilt I will then have to have the wooden parts primed so the final coats of paint may be applied to the whole wheel (including metal and wooden parts). I am not an autobody person so I will be contracting the priming and painting out to a shop. It appears I may have to provide some advice to the shop when I deliver the items to be primed and painted. Jason ... Do you recommend a specific product for primer and final paint type? Keeping in mind I would like to keep the vehicle as authentic as possible. I really appreciate everyone's help.
  17. What primer would be correct for the wheels on a 1920 Dodge Brothers touring car? The metal parts that require priming are the brake drums, drive plates (hubs), felloe band, felloe clips, felloe protectors. The wooden spokes & wooden felloes require priming as well. What would be the correct primer for these wooden parts? Thanks for your help. Dale
  18. I believe I have finished the research on this topic. My findings are summarized below: The wooden spokes, wooden felloe, felloe band & brackets, felloe protector, brake drums & drive plates (hubs) are finished in Ditzler Paris Blue. The demountable rim, rim clamps, rim mounting bolts & rim nuts were zinc electroplated. Thank you to everyone on this thread for your feedback and information. Roger Hartley has been an excellent source of information as well. Thanks again! Dale
  19. Does anyone know of a supplier for wheel bolts & nuts? Specifically the rear wheel bolts & nuts for a 1920 Dodge Brothers Touring Car. The drive plate (hub) is mounted on these bolts. The bolts go through the wooden spoked wheel and into the brake drum. Thanks Dale
  20. Hello Jason, I will do a little more research and post my findings here. I possibly spend too much time on the small details but quite enjoy the challenge. My end goal is to have a correctly restored Dodge in every respect. Is that possible? )
  21. Hello Jason, I will try to explain how these wheels are built. Wooden spoked wheels go into a wooden felloe (band of wood that is bent in two sections to form the diameter of the wheel. There is then (I will call it a wheel rim). These must have been installed when the wooden wheels are built as there have metal rods and clamps that fit through and over the wooden felloe. I believe these clips are called felloe clips. The one side of the wheel rim has a flange. This allows the demountable tire rim to slide onto the wheel rim. The flange on the inside of the wheel rim then holds the tire rim so the wheel clamps or lugs (wedges) are able to be tightened to secure the wheel rim. I am uncertain if the felloe clips and wheel rim should be zinc galvanized or not. Thank you for any clarification
  22. Thank you everyone for you feedback and comments. The conclusion I have come to is that the wooden spoked wheels and wooden felloe would be painted in Ditzler Paris blue. The hub and brake drums would be Ditzler Paris blue. The demountable 25" rim, rim clamps and rim bolts would be zinc galvanized. I am uncertain as to the proper finish for the steel ring that is mounted on the wooden felloe. The demountable rim mounts on this steel ring. Sorry I am uncertain what the correct terminology is for this part. Does anyone know the proper finish for this part? Thanks for your help. Dale
  23. I understand the original fan belt for the 1920 Dodge Touring car was red in color. Does anyone know of a supplier that provides this product? Thanks for your help! Dale
  24. What was the correct finish on the wheel rims for a 1920 Dodge Brothers touring car? Thanks for your help. Dale
  25. Thanks Jason, I am a member of the club and did not receive a roster. I will drop them a line and request one. Thank you for the information. I am in the process of a total restoration so knowing persons with the same vehicle may assist in making sure I restore to original specifications. Dale
