  1. I pulled the oil pump tonight and the spring between the two vanes was broken in two. I also found the check valve spring was broken. Anyone know a source for these or something close? Also, my oil pump strainer is in pretty bad shape (rust). Is anyone reproducing these or know of a repair?

One more thing, oil pump clearance- I read in the forum that it should be 0.002 - 0.003 (for a '23) but the gasket I removed measures around 0.009 and it does not appear to be a home made gasket. Should it be different for '25? If I go with the thinner clearance is there a preferred type of oil resistant paper to use?

  2. "Also, the DBC News ran a 3 part article in 1998 about how to check out and rework the Stewart. It is on the CD sets the club sells of back issues. The CD's are an excellent investment as is the CD by John B on Victory 6 which has general applicability to cars of this era."

Is there supposed to be a link to the club store on the web site? If so, please let me know where it hides. I would like to get a set of the CDs.

  3. Since this was already apart when I got it, I'd like to make sure I've got it right in my photo. As for the elbow in the photo, It was in baggie of parts for the tank but I can't figure out why it has the hole pointed out. You certainly wouldn't want to have a fuel or vacuum leak there. Any ideas?

  4. I'm a little confused about how the switch should be hooked up (it had been removed before I got the car and no labels on the wires). I do have the mechanic's manual but the switches shown on p. 71 are a little different. It is a Clum and I did a search and found a few mentions of a 4 position switch but no wiring help. In the back photo, I've pointed to the MAG terminal which doesn't appear to have been used. This also goes for the one above and to the right of mag (and says 'ooll', as far as I can tell). The other terminals (with screws) going from top clockwise are HEAD, ?, GRD, Horn, BAT, REAR, MAG and STD. I'm sure BAT gets -12V via the ammeter, HEAD is the L & R headlight, REAR is the tail light (via brake switch), HORN is horn wire and GRD is ground. I would assume the coil primary wire would go to MAG but it looks like it wasn't used. The car does have cowl lights so I'm guessing 'STD' could be for those? I tried testing the switch with an ohm meter but the results didn't answer the coil wire question. Also, I do not have a key for it but the switch does move (is this normal)?

  5. Thanks 1930. I will try and chase down some of those leads. You make a good point that it will require more research than the typical Ford or Chevy. THat's part of the fun. Do the mid-20's cars have any under- front fender support irons or are they just bolted to the frame, running board and tie rod between the headlights? I haven't been able to discern any clues from the pictures I've found. I have helped a friend with a couple of Model T's and I recall fender irons on those. I didn't notice anything like that in the boxes 'o parts I've got.

  6. Hi 1930, I think the CD set is a great idea but I can't seem to find where it's offered on the site (I have joined DBC). A link would be great if you know it. I have done some digging through ebay and Google but can't seem to find much in the way of in-process restoration of a mid-20's touring car yet. I'm sure there are a lot of DIY-types in the club who have done various parts, if not the whole enchilada. I just got the mechanic's manual today. A lot of information there but unfortunately none on the bodies.

  7. Hi, I just purchased my first ever antique auto; a 1925 Dodge touring car :D. I've always been interested in the early history of the automobile and finally took the plunge. The car is complete with the exception of top irons/bows but it will need a lot of work to get it in good running condition. I will post some pics as soon as I get some decent ones. In the meantime, I have a question about the seat pedestals. The engine serial number indicates a 1925 manufacture (I haven't checked any other locations). Unlike some of the photos I've come across in this forum, the seat pedestals are not made of wood. They are integral sheet metal structures of the car. Does anyone know about when this change occurred? Also, the running boards and running board aprons are in pretty rough shape. Any ideas where I might look for good used pieces?
