  1. *** SOLD ***

I am posting this for a friend - Scott Wolfe - whose father recently passed away and left behind what is believed to be Dodge Brothers DA6 engine/trans and axles/wheels.  Scott is looking to sell these parts, for a reasonable price, to someone who could make use of them.  In talking with his uncle, it's believed that these parts were removed from a running, driving Dodge Brothers vehicle for use in a different body/frame, but that never happened.  Again, Scott is not looking for big bucks, he'd simply like to make a few bucks get the parts back into circulation. Items are in Fredericktown Ohio 43019.   Please contact Scott for more info and pricing.  Contact info:

    Is that a 354?

The ID is on top in front of the valley cover, Stamped . Will tell the year and car it came in.

I guessed 354 by the looks of the front cover, (water inlet) Mine looks like that except it has a heat exchanger on it and I've never seen it without the exchanger.

The 354 car motor is one year only. 1956, other years in trucks and commercial engines.

The intake and carburetor don't look right for car though.

As I look a little closer I might be seeing the extended block (bellhousing) in the second pic. That would make it older, 331.

Again, I don't know much and even less about the truck engines.

Hi, Jack.  It's a '53 Chrysler 331; good catch on the extended bellhousing.  I just completed work fabricating an engine test stand, and hope to have the engine installed in it and fired up in the coming weeks, after catching up on some chores that need to be done.  As clean as the rockers look, I'm hoping for a good running engine that doesn't need a rebuild, but I'm usually not that lucky.  The guy that I purchased it from had it and a '26 Dodge Brothers 4-door sedan up for sale as a package.  When they didn't sell together, he split them up and sold me the engine.

    Hello Dan,

Patience is a good thing!!! I have been collecting bits for a 1931 Dodge Brothers DC Standard Eight for going on twenty-one years next month. It's been a very difficult search but it's well worth it, much of your success is in networking with people that have the same car. Getting the word out is also VERY important. I will respect you if you keep the car original for so much of our automotive history is getting destroyed as we speak! You will find the original motor and transmission at a fair price, it's just a matter of having patience and working at it and not giving up. When you are finished with your Fast Four Coupe and it's sitting there like the day someone drove it out of the showroom you will be so proud of yourself!  Here is a picture of my Standard Eight. Did you say what part of the world you live in?

    Hi, Dave.

Yep, you're right, I'm going to have to roll up my sleeves and get involved in the DB brotherhood; am looking forward to it! I like your Standard Eight, very nice!

I'm located in the great white north, west-central Wisconsin, 1/2 hour north of Eau Claire.

Now that I'm on the look for a Fast-4... do you know of anyone who'd care to buy my Chrysler hemi previously targeted for the coupe?  :)

  4. Thanks, Jan.  I've had a number of search strings set on eBay for several years now: "Dodge Brothers", "1928 Dodge", "1927 Dodge", etc. I've recently added "Dodge motor" and "Dodge Fast 4".  Thanks for the tip, I'll add some more Dodge engine focused ones, using general terms for the folks that may not know they have a Dodge Brothers treasure; "vintage" seems to be a popular term used to describe this older stuff... :)

No chance that the previous owner(s) know where the engine/transmission went?

Not at this point... I purchased the coupe over 10 years ago from a man in Detroit.  I planned on street-rodding it  [collective gasp ;) ], but now that I'm retired and and the time has come to actually start on the project I've come to my senses and decided to restore it.  Unfortunately, I no longer have contact info for the previous owner.

Only the last post of the stuff off ebay has the correct 28 Fast 4 engine The rear axle and torque tube are earlier (28 had open tailshaft ) It would be a shame to spoil that pretty little coup with non original running gear  Have patience my friend It took me 40 years to get the correct front bumper bar for my 2249 Senior.

Thanks, you're probably correct, best to wait for a decent Fast-4 package to show up.  Patience has never been my strong suit, looks like I get a chance to work on that... ;)

Yep, been checking out eBay, but have been looking for a substantially complete engine/trans combo.

Forgive me for asking but why do you want to do it at all?   None of my business of course; just curious.

    Ray.

No problem.  I'm missing the engine, bell housing, transmission, and all the assorted goodies that are needed for the Fast-4 coupe.  Fast-4 engines, much less a complete Fast-4 motor package, seem to be hard to come by, and very expensive for a good running one.  This ready-to-drive 6 cylinder, complete with all associated parts, became available for a very decent price, so it seemed like a reasonable avenue to explore.

Not even close to fitting that DA6 engine without major alterations to the frame.

The seller of the DA6 gave me the measurements of the motor mounts.  The front ones are way off - appear to be much wider on the six.  But the width or the rear mounts, and their distance from the front mounts, seem to be very, very close, if not the same.  Do you think there's any chance that the rear will bolt in as-is, and I could fabricate a front mount?  Thank you!

  10. I have a 1928 Dodge Brothers Fast-4 coupe. I also have access to a 1930 Dodge Brothers DA 6-cylinder, complete with bellhousing, transmission, etc.; engine no. H116-085.  Can anyone tell me if the 6-cylinder would be a drop-in swap for the Fast-4?  Thanks in advance for any help that you can give me.  Dan
