  1. If anyone is really trying to keep tabs on the 16v cars, put me down for one. The heart of Dan Culkin's 16v TC now beats in my car and pretty strongly, too. Was driving home late last night, the road was empty, so I let the full weight of my foot settle on the gas pedal. Man, did she fly! And unlike my son's 2007 Mustang, the motor was almost whisper quiet.

    Man, I love this car!!

  2. Been thinking about cleaning and treating my convertible top. Looks it has some dirt in the fabric plus I noticed the water didn't bead when I washed the car the other day.

Trying to decide which product to use--303, Raggtopp, or the Porsche cleaners. Very interested in hearing what others think about these products (ease of use, how well they clean and protect, price, etc).

    Cheers

PS I noticed where the ribs hold up the cloth, the fabric is looking a little different. Almost shiny like worn dress pants. Is this something I should be concerned about?

  3. Check with with IMCDB. It lists all the car makes that have appeared in TV and movies.

It lists only 2 times that the TC appeared on film. Once is in the movie Lionheart (1990) and in the other was in the TV series Hunter (Season 6 Episode 13).

    Anybody have more to add?

Had to think about this question the other day when I saw a 1980s Pontiac Fiero featured prominently in the new movie Pain and Gain. Wonder if there is still a chance to get a TC on the silver screen?

  4. Just talked with Chris@TurbosUnleashed. He stated he bought a 16v to test another sample gasket on, and to have a TC to review what parts they can Reman.. the gaskets are still a go but pushed out to the first of the yr. 2013. So it's stay tuned for now. as we 16v owner hope to see replacment gaskets and back ups

Just great! I managed to blow out the temp gasket Brian installed in my engine on the ride home today. Lousy traffic and worse drivers made me lose my temper. Like any intelligent person, I took out my frustrations by mashing the gas pedal. Now I have a nice big puddle of oil under the car. :-(

Ssooo, any chance those gaskets will be ready before the 1st of the year?

  5. Would be nice if we could talk to someone who was involved with the design team.

While Chrysler may have been working on a design before Maserati got involved (maybe even involving Shelby or Lambo), the design similarities (exterior and interior) between the TC and Maserati's other road cars indicates that Maserati certainly had a significant input. Plus, Maserati had time to re-engineer the 2.2 as a DOHC.

  6. Does anyone have an idea of how Maserati and Chrysler decided on the TC's look?

I ask because somewhere I thought I had read that Chrysler was the prime mover but when I came across photos of the Maserati Biturbo Spyder and the Karif, I see a lot of similarities to the our cars.

Would appreciate any insights you TC historians out there may have.

  7. Guys,

It was only this summer (after having the car for 3 years) that I finally took the hard top off and brought out the soft one. I love the look! I may never put the hard top back on.

Been having a lot of fun running around town and going for short hops. Today, however, was the first time I took it out for a longer drive to Philly to drop it off for an engine swap. On the way, my wife, who was following me, called to let me know that the top was visibly flapping. I hadn't noticed any movements from the inside or heard any noise. Still, when I reached my hand out, I could feel the top cover vibrating pretty well.

The fabric seemed taut to me beforehand and its appearance is practically new.

So what do I do? I presume there is a way to tighten the fabric, right? Is it something I can do or will I have to take it to a shop?

    Thoughts?

  8. Great that you "showed the flag" for the TC.

When I was still in Germany last year, I took mine to an American car show at one of the big transportation museums north of Stuttgart. It was pretty cool to be part of the show. The locals were definitely puzzled by it (they were very familiar with the Big Dogs like Mustangs, Corvettes, Camaroes and pink Cadillacs) so I got a chance to give some history lessons.

One guy even called it "ein tolles auto" (a fantastic/wonderful car). It was a wonderful day!

  9. I'm on the opposite side of that equation. I found a rotted out 16v car and had the engine pulled and rebuilt to be put into my 8v baby. The guy doing it gave me 3 boxes of parts--including wiring looms, belts, etc--to hold onto because they are probably not interchangeable with the 8v.

I'm hoping his work schedule will open up soon so we can complete the transfer.

  10. headlights? AC? wipers? loading the charging system with all of these could drain the battery while driving IF your charging system is sub-par. a good example would be if you have a failed diode in the alternator. with all that load, the alternator would not be able to keep up, and you would be constantly discharging the battery. certain models, discontinued in 1989 by chrysler, had diode packs that are replaceable WITHOUT having to remove the alternator. for more info on charging systems:

    Alternators and Generators

Unfortunately, the final analysis will have to wait. I called the shop and they are over a week behind with a full lot of cars ahead of me. guess a week from Monday is the earliest I can get someone to dive into it.

That said, the mechanic who went out to register the car into their system tried to start it up and told me he thinks the timing belt is broken.

Does that sound right? I've never had that kind of problem before so I don't know the symptoms.
