  1. When I replaced the brake lines a few yrs ago, I requested that they ( In-Line) make the long line in two pieces. A LOT easier to slide thru the frame in two pieces, and a bonus: saved some ship. costs as carton was smaller.

  3. Here's a few shots of the cracked rubber ring which sits inside the double pulley attached to the balancer. Ideally, I'd like to purchase a replacement ring, or I probably glue it together & hope for the best. Also, as several of you said, its probably not necessary to replace, but since its off the engine, why not try to replace/repair?? The dimensions ar posted to my first post. I tried Steele, Metro, Bob's, no luck.

    Thanks,

    Jerry

    philipj,

I went Gateway a week ago Sat.  and saw the '37 RM. Most of the items needing attention were already mentioned by others, except the running boards, they were worn. Did not open the hood or look underneath. I'm about 30 minutes from Gateway, I'd go look again on your behalf. Does Gateway have a lift, not sure if they'd let one drive it, esp. with the snow/icy roads. There may be some method to check if the door wood is bad w/o pulling the interior panels off, perhaps someone may suggest a way.

Let me know if I can assist further.

  5. After removing the pulley/balancer, I noticed that the rubber ring inside the belt pulley is split in two, cracked. (two pulley version, gen. & P.S.)

    I checked on line w/ Steele, Metro Moulded, & Bob's, no one lists this part. Dimensions:  5 1/2" o/s diameter, 4 3/4" i/s diameter, 9/16" wide i/s.

A source for this part would be much appreciated.

    Thanks!

  6. Referring to my inquiry to you forum folks of Jan. 25th about the excessive clearance of the rope seal at the timing cover/crankshaft - I FORGOT that I need to install the pulley/damper on the crank & thru the timing cover & new seal !! I test-fitted the parts and the fit is fine. THANKS to Old Tank  for his comment regarding fitting the pulley/damper onto the crank.

  7. Well, I'm back to assembling the engine, after a many month absence. Lifters were inspected by a well known Buick factory engine engineer from the nailhead days. He said they all looked fine, all had even wear, and to re-use them, even though I mixed them up. I cleaned the light scale from the lifter sides, prelubed them w/ assembly lube, & the cam lobes, and dropped them into place. The timing chain & gears show minimal wear, no sludge, so I'm leaving it alone.

    Now to my current question:

I've  installed a new synthetic rope crankshaft oil seal supplied w/ the chain cover gasket set, tapped the shedder with the seal into the cover, test fitted the cover over the crankshaft, and the clearance between the seal & crankshaft is approx. 1/4" + - .  The shop manual says to use a Packing Expander Tool # J 5250-2 to expand the packing into place and size the opening for the crankshaft, ( page 2-27, subpar. B. )  What can I use to expand the seal, since I don't have this tool? Is a similar type tool available??

    Thanks for your continuing assistance.
