    I can only imagine that old trucks like this found in good original condition are so much more rare that your typical old car.

    They were work vehicles that cost the bottom line so they were not "Babied" but rather worked hard. To find a good, functional, clean, working, original truck is a neat find.

    The un-restored value may be worth the same than restored depending on condition....

    Yeash...I struggle with the decision to either buy something directly for the Buick or the tool to install it. Hell I still use a wooden chest of drawers as a tool box :o

    Nice sign...too bad one can't drive it ;)

    From the start I have endured all the comments from my social circle on what I am to do with my new project. From disc brakes, alternator swaps all the way to using a crate 350....I have heard it all. Not one asked if I was going to preserve the original makeup???

    All the while however, I have been "mentored" from the likes of MrEarl and the gang at 54Buick.com.

    I have to say I may have been swayed to the "Resto-Rod" route if it was not for people like I find here and my home site.

    Thanks to all of you for helping me understand the value of historical preservation.

    I registered here with the hopes of finding someone who might be interested in it or give me the push I would need to take on a project like this that I really don't want or need.

    My suggestion is to not start something like this if your heart is not in it. You will likely NOT make any money off a restoration and this is something that, if done right, will consume your attention and your wallet for many years. One caveat would be if you are getting a steal from an old lady who is undervaluing the car, you could then just flip it....but without pictures the folks here can't tell what it truly is or assist with any value determination.

    If it is your passion then fine but these are not whimsical type endeavours, one should be in it for the long haul.....

    hehehe....it's just like the saying that our ladies do when deciding on what jewelry to wear on a night-out.

    "Look in the mirror and take off the first thing you see.." ...for some reason she never sees the dress first :P

    With a car that has more than its fair share of ornamentation it makes me wonder why someone would try to add to that.

    Love the 58's...sooo much to look at.

    BTW...is that building in the first picture sinking away???

    One more thing about cash. Once, I went to buy a car, and actually ended up staying in the house with the seller and his wife for one night. I was buying a car in pieces, and it was a long, drawn out, affair. We finally got to the settlement, and I had $10,000 in cash, all wrapped and banded. I gave it to the seller, and he handed it to his wife, asking her to count it. She walked off to another room. Big mistake. She came back a few minutes later. "you're a hundred dollars short." Ummm, no, those were bank banded counted verified absolutely never touched stacks of bills. "no, hundred dollars short." I had no choice but to give them the hundred bucks out of my pocket.

    Lesson learned, you can count the money, but you'll do it in front of me for sure.....

    Thats a grim way of making an extra 1% on a sale....

    No worries...life will eventually catch up on that individual.

    Personally I count it out as a pay people cash....especially when it's large amounts. They can count it again but I make sure I lay it all out first.

    I just went through and read every post in this thread, the one thing that stands out the most to me is....it is something of a Restorer's mission statement. I am what one would consider new/young at this. I can't say with enough passion that you Dean have inspired me to do better and to understand that anything can be accomplished with enough fortitude and discipline. For that I thank you.

    You said this a couple of pages back and it's something we all should think about when attempting these projects that enter into our lives.

    The big question people tend to ask is "how much is it worth now". I think they expect me to say it's worth twice as much as I have into it. I'm afraid that's not the case. I didn't keep receipts and never added up costs, but I'm pretty certain I'm upside down in it. I did not do it as an investment, and don't care. This was the best for me. There is a lot of satisfaction of restoring a car and I highly recommend it.

    That's a restorer's mission statement if I ever did see one...hell I want a bumper sticker that says that!

    Enjoy it in every way you can..especially by driving it and showing it!

    Run for election or at least, GET OUT AND VOTE!!

    I think that can be summed up better by saying: "Be informed and get involved".

    I help my local preferred candidates for election every time one comes up...on all levels of Gov't. Be part of the process.....

    Personally I never talk politics with people who don't vote...they don't get a say unless they use their right to say it

    Try to ping 72.32.209.239

    To ping an address:

    Start>Program Files>Accessories>Command Prompt

    Then type:

    ping 72.32.209.239

    If you get all 3 responses better than 80 ms then your fine for connection and it is a cookie/PC issue.

    Is this a forum problem?

    Yep great bandwidth....

    I'm guessing that the AACA is the only one causing issues?

    If so it just may be a routing issue and should resolve itself in a day or so.

    One other thing...could be a cookie issue. Try clicking the log out on AACA then re-log in using username and password. This would release the old one and give you a fresh one.

    I have some more ideas but have to go...check back later.
