Clutch is gone on the air conditioning comp. and I have a little play in the water pump shaft in the in and out direction. I.m wondering if it would be worth the extra work to pull the radiator or is it required to do this anyway to replace these parts. I ordered an AC Delco 1522130 compressor and I'm concerned that it ships with mineral oil in it as I'm still a R12 system and will stay that way. I'm hoping it has no orange and white label on it. If not I guess I can flush it well. My car is a 1991 by the way.I will be replacing the by-pass hose at this time also as was suggested in earlier posts about this subject. Anything else I should consider except switching to a different refrigerant will be appreciated.

You are correct. This is the part that usually corrects the problem with the blower running all the time:

Is that different than the dash assembly that controls everything from defrost to air conditioning?

I believe what I need is in Ronnie's store. Not the dash unit but in the engine compartment.

Your blower control module has gone bad. That is why the blower motor keeps on spinning the "squirrel cage" after the car is shut off.

The only thing I did that I haven't done for a long time was run it on Econ. mode. Too nice for Air Cond. but fresh air seemed like a good idea. I shut off the car after I got home and the blower still ran. Started it up and turned off dash controls and then turned off the car and it still ran. Took the battery cables off for an hour and it still runs. I replaces the dash air/heat etc. control assembly a few months ago because some of the buttons worked sporadically. Seemed perfect after the swap and now this bug-a-boo. I have the plug pulled on the blower now so the car is still drivable but can't leave it like that in sunny FL. Any help is appreciated. The car is a 1991 coupe.

Did you have to pull the panel below the steering column to get to it???
Mine is still behaving, but I'd like to replace it before cold weather unless I have further problems before late Sept.

Sorry for the late reply. I've been away to a 50th. reunion. I did pull the panel to change mine. I can't remember if I HAD too but it was easy to to rmove and replace so I did and I had plenty of access with it off.

I had to do the same thing when driving my car and the brake lights stayed on. Pulling up on the brake didn't make the lights go out so it was the only option I had. I was thinking it was maybe a relay? After running the battery down twice after forgetting to check them, I went ahead and changed out the switch that had been on my workbench for 2 month. I hate to rush into things. (G) That was 6 months ago and no problem since. I really think you'll be glad you ordered a switch and changed it out ( a 5 minute job). Just my 2 cents worth and offered in a helping way.

I wish I could find the exact replacements for the connectors in the engine bay, but after searching the Internet for an hour, no luck. I'll probably just go to a 2 pin weatherproof connector from AutoZone. I need to measure the opening in the fender well 1st to make sure it will go through. The connectors from the salvage yard sensors are in poor shape while my originals look like they were made yesterday. I don't want to cut and splice mine until I'm sure the problem is in the front sensors.

Is the diameter .760 or is it 11/16"?
11/16" = 0.6875"

It is .760 on my mic. I did the conversion to inches (approximate) just to give the guys a ballpark number in case they didn't have a mic. in the old tool box. Sorry for the confusion.

For grins, could you measure the cylindrical part that goes into the hub for length from the bottom of the flange to the end of the metal tip, and its diameter? Curious how it compares to the older style. Maybe that end is interchangeable.

The length is 1 1/8" and the diameter is .760 or 11/16"

Looks like the elimination of the metal can was a significant improvement. Too bad there aren't lots of these available.
For grins, could you measure the cylindrical part that goes into the hub for length from the bottom of the flange to the end of the metal tip, and its diameter? Curious how it compares to the older style. Maybe that end is interchangeable.
To check for condition, measure the resistance between the two contacts. A good sensor will read between 1100 and 1600 ohms if my memory serves.
Also check condition of the cable insulation from one end to the other especially where it flexes. Use Plasti-Dip or something to cover any breaks or cracks or it will fail soon.
Resistance check isn't an absolute test it will work but will weed out an obviously bad one. Spinning the wheel while looking at the AC voltage it produces is better, but not so easy to accomplish.

The sensors are out and in good shape. They must be totally different than the 88-90 sensors as there is no metal here to bond to the hub. The sensor case is all plastic and I was able to gently separate them with my Sears handy, dandy gasket scraper. The star head screws that secure them also came out with just a little oomph. I'll swap them this weekend and see if that gets my ABS back. Is there a way to check the sensors on the bench to see if they are functional? I do have a meter in the old toolbox. The ends were totally trashed but I can use my originals if there is no other option. Doesn't look like any 2 pin connector I've ever seen anywhere before. Probably unique to the '91 series of cars that use this sensor. Thanks to everyone for the help so far.

Thanks Dave, I found a set near my home and purchased them still in the hub. I was afraid they would damage them removing them so I bought the package. Now, what is the best way to remove them safely. I have sprayed them with penetrating solvent and will do that for a few days. Can I add heat from my Snap-On mini butane torch to help? What is the metal pin on the opposite side of the sensor. Stay away from it? What would be a good tool to pry the sensor out as I think it is a press fit. I have removed the bolts already. Any help would sure be appreciated. Thanks, Rick.

I found a set locally off a '91 Rivera and other than the electrical connectors look to be in good shape. I'm soaking them in penetrating solution now on the bench. What do I need to know about removing them from the hub without damaging them. I believe they are a press fit. Also, I see a metal pin on the opposite side of the sensor and don't know what it is for. Stay away from it? If it is a matter of prying it loose as iI suspect any idea on what would be good to do that with? Would it hurt to add heat with my mini-butane torch to loosen it? I have a Snap-On mini torch with a adjustable pin-point flame. Any help would be appreciated as I sur don't want to damage these as they are pretty hard to find. I can't believe I found a set 10 miles from my house as Sebring is pretty much in the middle of nowhere. Thanks, Rick

The front wheel speed sensors for the 1991 Cadillac Seville and 1991 Cadillac Eldorado are a 1 year application only and are out of production and I can't find any for sale. Monkey Works will reproduce these if there is enough demand for approx. $125.00 each. Considering how it is extremely difficult it is to remove one from a salvaged car without damaging it as it is a press fit that bonds over the years this is a good option. I would appreciate feedback to see if there is enough interest to have this done. Even though this failure does not disable the braking system it does disable the ABS system. The 1991 Toronado, Cadillac Seville's, Cadillac Eldorado's, Buick Riviera's, and Buick Reatta's also share this part. Thanks.

I had the same problem recently. Very intermittent. I replaced the switch and that fixed it. The switch is held in place by serrated edges and is an easy swap. Pull the old, replace the wires and push it back in the hole. Push it out farther than needed and apply the brake a few times and it will set itself. Piece of cake. Here's one on EBAY for $10. It appears there are no more '91 Front ABS wheel speed sensors (the original part is GM3521274 and was also sold by Raybestos as part ABS53006900 anywhere except maybe a salvage yard. Even that is a problem as removal of these requires great care as they tend to bond them selves over the years. I believe there are 2 1991 Cadillac models and a 1991 Old Tornado that use the same sensors along with the 1991 Reatta so that is 4 unique vehicles using this part. That is a very limited market. I have been talking to a vendor who is looking at having it reproduced. It would require a 100 piece minimum to do. Cost would be about $125.00 each and that is a really rough estimate at this time. My question is, do you think the demand is there for this part and do you think posting this info on the Cadillac and Tornado Forums would be productive? I realize our '91 brake systems will work without the sensors but I like the idea of having ABS especially here in Fl. with its weather and less than capable Senior drivers( even though most keep to themselves in the left lane at 30 MPH under the speed limit). I would appreciate some feedback on this especially from some of the Members who stock and sell parts to other Forum members. Is this something you would be interested in stocking and retailing? Right now this project is in the research phase only. Thanks, Rick
