Guest 55_Clipper
I am going to repalce the freeze plugs(I have a leak in one of them) and all the gaskets available that I have on hand.. BTW-Kev- I see you in the next 8 mos., we are going to drag............your '54 against my '55................ time 1715 on the 91 FWY. LOLIt wasn't the freeze plugs that were leaking.... it was the heat exchanger.. I have a temporary fix on that......

Guest 55_Clipper
wow, Replying to my own thread..... Anyway, the leak was coming from the heat exchanger....I patched it and it runs good. How do I change Packard's design gracefully without destroying the authenticity of the vehicle? Dick Benjamin told me to replace the heat exchanger with a Jegs model, but how do I re-route the the water flow for engine coolant? use a flexible hose for coolant maybe? HH56
This was discussed on the packardinfo.com forum a while back. Several have made the conversion to air cooler--either completely or an additional cooler in series with the water one. One knowledgeable member says the best type to use is one with flat tubes and suggests the B&M 70268 or similar (Summit Racing). As to the elimination and proper water flow, IMHO, the simplest and most authentic would be to order a set of radiator hoses for a standard transmission car (item RHS102). The lower hose is formed properly as there was no cooler on those and shape ensures it stays away from the fan. Max Merritt carries the set of upper and lower hose & clamps.
