Greetings, this chrysler is a 1950 4 door sedan, looks like a Windsor, however, the lettering on the trunk lid says "Traveler". Windsor is nowhere on the car. The rear seat folds completely forward, for luggage or sleeping?? Anybody have any info on this Traveler or know of a website that does? Thanks from L.A., George

The car is definitely a 1951 or 1952 Windsor (the taillamps are the only change from 51 to 52). A Traveler was a 1950 only model.

I believe, however, that the trunk lids from 1949/50 bodies interchange with 1951/52 bodies. Rear styling was not substantially changed in the 1951 restyle. Your trunk lid was probably replaced with this (very rare) 1950 Traveler lid at some time.

Thanks for the input! How about the folding rear seat which seem to be original,, I do have a 1952 Windsor, all original and great running cond., but this chrysler in question has significant more leg room in the rear? The title states, 1950 chrysler, 4 door sedan.

Thanks Guys...

I'm at home now, looking at this on a better screen and with my reference materials near me. I can see now that it is a '51 or '52, not a '53.

There was a Traveler available in '51 - they made 850 of them according to the Encyclopedia of American Cars, and Collectible Automobile magazine. The '51 Traveler was apparently not on an extended wheelbase (like the earlier DeSoto Carry-All) and did not have a roof rack.

As far as being titled as a '50, it must have been a very early '51 registered in the latter part of '50 and was titled as a '50. I've seen cars advertised for sale in the past that have been incorrectly titled based on the year is was sold instead of for the model year that it really was.

Oldsfan is correct, there was a 1951 Traveler. In 1951 it shifted from the Windsor to the Windsor Deluxe series, which is why I didn't see it listed in my previous post. Sorry.

The Standard Catalog of Chrysler says that the roof rack became an option in 1951.

This is not a 1950 traveler. I have a 1950 traveler.

1950 travelers were all pretty much the same. all were tan

body brown top with aligator interior. they had a roof

rack and a fold down seat. the base car was the windsor.

They are very rare and not worth much. I like mine because

it is different than everything at the shows. The key to

your photo is the wide hood. Mine has a narrow hood.

This is an interesting car. How many of the 850 built can possibly be left?

I like the roof rack. Are you saying your car was built without the roof rack or is it just missing today?

Cheers, Greg
