Guest HuevosRanchero
Since it was a Buick/Pontiac/Oldsmobile night at the Summit in ATL after the 4th...I decided on getting our driver closer to being ship shape. First had to get the car vomit off of the hood blanket. Brillo pad actually did a good job of this as long as you don't rub too hard. Removed the old grill...had hoped to save it and repair and possibly paint it black as an alternative but was missing too many chunks and in 5 different pieces so that was a no go. PO provided a replacement grill with the trunk full of parts. Cleaned up this area....just grimy...except the power steering cooler which was looking a bit beat up. Cleaned and painted it... The new/old grill Original wire wrap was in crumbling tatters... you can see the old and new side by side. Need more to complete the job. Not sure why but the passenger sail panel had a skim of filler with stress cracks which had cracked and bubbled the paint., I am truly awful at paint and body work but have neither the time or funds currently for a pro repair so I attempted it myself once again....unto the breach as it were. Cleared away the bad stuff and re skimmed and spot puttied. finish seal Painted in Victory Red with clear coat and after final blend in with paper and cutting compounds I'm surpised and please with the results. Of course pics lie and make things better than they are but it is very passable in person. KDirk
Nicely done. The paint work looks decent enough and certainly better than it was prior to your efforts. The grille is a common problem, 3 of my 4 Reattae had broken (cracked) grilles when I purchased them. Road debris seems to beat them pretty badly. Did you use high-heat split loom for the replacement? I ask because if not, you will likely end up with sections that partially melt due to heat near the engine and transmission. Something to keep an eye on.KDirk

Never seen stuff crumble away like the original, super brittle.
