jcmiller
Trying to separate a straight 8 engine from the bellhousing. Have 10 bolts removed. Won't budge. Are there a couple pins that need to be driven out? Thx!
c49er
After removing the angle brackets and lower cast cover there are a total of six bolts that hold the bell housing to the 8 cylinder block. Two on top and two on each side. There are also two 1/2" dowels... one on each side.. as shown in pics.A whack with a rubber mallet should easily pop it loose. Then if the fluid coupling is still bolted to the crank the bell housing might still not completely come of as the dowels are too long.Either carefully tap the dowels a bit into the block or remove the FD coupling first... the correct way. Some misc pictures...Bob
jcmiller
Thanks Bob! I'm buying this unit from someone in another state and they ran into this during the removal. I think your post will help them get it separated.
