Packard Don
Can anyone tell me what finish was used on the clock housing of a 1938 Packard 120 coupe? Was it chrome or painted and if the latter, is there a color code available? Thank you.
Phils38cpe
If you are talking about the part this is inside the glove compartment- mine is painted. As for color it's a taupe ,really doesn't match the dash . Of course the front bezel is chrome.
Packard Don
Thank you, that's what I thought but mine is in too bad a condition to tell for sure and my expertise goes back only to 1940 and even then it's ancient memories. Looking at it closely, there appears to be chrome-like particles in the rust but it struck me as odd that it may have been chromed when the inside of the lid is tan. Glad to know that it was simply painted.
Phils38cpe
Now I'm a little confused about what part of the clock you are talking about. When looking at the clock with the glove box closed the clock has a chrome ring around it.
Packard Don
I was talking about the same thing you answered: the cover on the inside of the glove box. My clock has good chrome on the outside trim but the back cover is covered with surface rust. Thank you again for your help.
flackmaster
The housing of the clock, such that the only portion visible once installed is that which is visible when the glove box door is opened, the back of the clock, is silver-grey, very similar to the dashboard background color. This is for certain based on a NOS clock I have in my archival collection.
