Pete Phillips
Working on a 1953 Special and found two cracks in the head right where the valves seat. Looks like it would be rather expensive to repair, if it can be repaired. In my stock of parts, I have what appears to be a pretty good 248 head from a 1940s Buick. It is the same length and width, in fact the only difference I can find is the 248 does not have quite as many coolant passages as the 263 head, but a metal gasket should take care of blocking those 2 or 3 spots off. Does anyone know why I could not use this 248 head on the 263 engine? Of course, before I do it, I will have the 248 head checked for cracks, etc.Pete Phillips, BCA #7338Leonard, Tx
Bob H
Check the thermostat housing attachment point on the front of the heads. Not exactly sure of the years but prewar and postwar are different. I have a good 1950 head but freight to you would be prohibitive. Bob H
