fatbuick
Aussie Buick Nationals in Perth in the 71 Riviera. The first few pics were taken on the Hay Plains about 10 hours out of Sydney at sunset. There was a two day 'meet and greet' in the Barossa Valley where members from the east coast got together before the trip across the Nullabor. 30 Buicks ranging from 1930 to 1980. The policeman is my 2nd cousin who got a surprise visit from us as we drove through his town. The Riv performed faultlessly achieving as much as 22.3 mpg of some 90 mile straight stretches at just under 60mph. Average for the trip is about 18 mpg so far which is pretty impressive. (Imperial gallons here, not US) We have just finished the Nationals Meet and I'm proud our car won Grand Champion in the peer judging. We're about to start the 12 day post tour north of Perth to some spectacular areas. Will upload more pics soon.
slosteve
Great photos Tony. Do they call those multi-trailer trucks 'road trains'? And do all of your group travel at the same speed?Steve

fatbuick
Thanks. Yes, they are called Road Trains. That one we belive was carrying iron ore. Only three of us traveled in convoy as it gets difficult to all leave together and stop at the same points. We usually met up with everyone for dinner at night and various people at fuel stops etc. The speed limit was mostly 110kph which about 70mph I think. Some of the older Buicks only traveled at about 45mph and got overtaken many times.
