Guest Olds88_1956
OK, it has been sometime since I overhauled an engine.I'm pretty sure that the SAE30 and STP combo we use to use is a bit out dated. What is the engine assembly lube to use? I have way too much time and money invested, to be cheap NOW!Thanks!Olds88_1956
TexasJohn55
In my opinion, it is like ice water on a hot summer's day, it doesn't get much better. You may consider a break-in lube on the camshaft lobes and lifters.
RansomEli
I used the oil/STP combo on my '56 Olds and had no problems. However, a tube of engine assembly lube is about $6. Well worth the cost. What I would definitely do is buy and use break-in oil. It has the extra zinc you need to break in your tappets and camshaft. It's never happened to me but I have heard some expensive horror stories about screwing up your cam within the first 20 minutes of break-in.
