ajbarrell
Does anyone know what color the cast iron part of the jetfire turbo should be painted? I’m ready to send mine out to get it rebuilt, but before I do I’d like to send the turbine section to JetHot to get it ceramic coated. I know that JetHot’s coating won’t be correct, but I would like the color to be reasonably close to original.
rocketraider
As far as I know, they were natural cast iron color. Any paint would burn off quick due to temps involved.Good luck with this. The vast majority of Jetfires got changed over to 4-barrel carb in a factory recall. It was just like the Chevrolet fuel injection. Great idea, but it got dropped on the dealer service organization with little to no training. Those old-line mechanics simply weren't prepared to deal with itFor that matter, if only Olds had dropped the compression a point or so...Still a reminder of a time when GM wasn't afraid to take a risk with different technology. ajbarrell
Thanks for the reply.Looking at period photos and advertisements, it appears that they may have been painted silver. You're right though, they’re all rust colored now.Tony
