Classic Cars
I am assembling the rebuilt engine and question as to whether the distributor could be incorrectly installed on the cam, As I currently see the slot in the cam, how do I know when mating the distributor, am I correct or 180 degrees out of phase. CBoz
The tab at the back of the distributor shaft and the cam slot are both slightly off-center. If you try to install it wrong, you will know because the distributor mounting bolts will not line up right. Hope this helps.
Rolf
Cece is absolutely correct, but I learned a even easier fool proof way to do it, and that is to put the distributor up to the plate with the 3 cap screws that hold it on, but those bolts finger tight, then reach in the openings where the caps go on and gently turn the rotor while putting a little pressure backwards, in less thn a full rev, the slot and tang will align, and your distributor is installed properly, hope that helps, Rolf
