63Electra
Hello, I just got my car and wanted to Repair my outer door handle. Do do This I needed to Remove the Door handle, the armrest, and the Window cranks. I have found it very difficult/ Impossible to get the cranks off. It is tough to see how they are secured to the window mechanisms. How are they secured? and how do I get them off? any special tool needed to do this job? Thanks
imported_buick5563
The inner handles are held on with horseshoe shaped clips. You need a special tool that shoves the clip off. They sell them at Napa and other decent auto parts stores. Once you see the first one, you will go "aha!" (It still ain't that easy <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />) You should definitely get a shop manual and body manual from ebay. They are on there all the time. You need both. Usually they go for about $25-$35 for decent originals.Mike
Guest brh
If you push on the door panel and leave the handle in place with a flashlight you can see this clip. I have removed with two screw drivers, long shafts one on each side of the bottom of the clip and pushed off the clip. This is a royal pain in the --- but I was able to make a one time repair without buying the tool.
Guest John Chapman
This link has a pretty good text and picture demonstration of what steps to take."http://www.diynetwork.com/diy/ab_interior/article/0,2021,DIY_13689_2278591,00.html"Copy the link between the quotations above and paste it into your browser address window. The UBB program has trouble with the commas in the URL string and corrupts the link.JMC
