Guest snuphysolds Posted March 2, 2007 Share Posted March 2, 2007 On my 56 Super 88 Holiday Sedan (same as Rivera Sedan) the outside window whiskers are crimped into a bead that is about 3/16 diameter. I don't know if the Buick has an external stainless piece that this bead/whisker is attached to. The pictures in the Buick shop manual don't really show this area well enough. This is much larger than the bead on whiskers that I have found. Does anyone know if these large bead/whiskers are reproduced or an easy way to replace the whiskers. Because of the stainless trim shape this may be used only on Super 88 and 98. This design may have been used on 1957 also. Any help or suggestions appreciated. It was suggested that I post my question here since the 4dr hard top bodies for Buick and Olds are basically the same. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

How did you "carefully" remove the old whiskers from the large bead and how did you recrimp the new whiskers in place? old-tank Posted March 6, 2007 Share Posted March 6, 2007 "Carefully"=time and patience. Actually it sound easy if you say it quickly. I just looked at a used bead to refresh myself on how I did it...major pia! Gloves(!) screwdrivers for prying, visegrip or other pliers with hardwood blocks for crimping. Start with the straight (less complicated) pieces from the front doors. This took me hours and seclusion from children and others with sensitive ears. And I did kink a rear door piece and had to start over with another piece from a parts car. But I recall an advertiser in Buick Bugle or Old Cars that calls himself Resoration Supplies (www.restorationspecialties.com)or something like that. I think they are in Penn. They have all kinds of fuzzies, and a supply of hardware for all the oldies.
