richardmelini Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 Got my running boards back from the body shop today and still do not have a viable way to remove the old mats. If anyone out there has a removal technique, please let me know. I need to remove the dried out old mats from the running boards of my 1939 Buick Model 41. Any guidance you could give me would be appreciated. Thank you for any help you can pass along.
Guest DaveCorbin Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 Dear Richard: The only thing for removing it that I've found that works is a very sharp wood chisel, a good hammer, and lots of elbow grease. Get them all chiseled off, sand blast them well, and send them without paint to Hunley Acuff in Georgia. He has the molding machine like they were originally made on and molds for these Buicks. Your total cost will be about $1000, but they'll be literally like new! This is what I did on my 1938 Special. It sure beat the 200 hours of hand work I did on each one of the running boards on my 1939 Roadmaster. Both looked like new, but the 38 was a whole lot easier. Regards, Dave Corbin
richardmelini Posted November 13, 2006 Author Posted November 13, 2006 Dave,Thank you for the information! I appreciate you taking the time to share your experiences with the running boards. The knowledge that I gain from this fourm is priceless. I am not surprised that you came up with this solution, because you were smart enough to collect Buicks over the years. Thank you again,Richard <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/ooo.gif" alt="" />
