1947 Cadillac transmission problem

I just posted a similar request in the tech section - sorry for any duplication.

The car is in excellent condition inside and out. Everything works but now I can't drive it because of a problem I ran into when towing. I towed it to Connecticut from Virginia (about 300 miles) with the rear wheels trailing.

I found out after doing this that the transmission wasn't getting any lubrication. And in fact, it was extremely hot and smoking a little. The car will still go forward and reverse, only there is a jolt after a few feet like a brake is being tapped.

I've been told not to drive it to avoid any "additional" transmission damage.

Any idea how extensive this problem might be? What parts I might need? Anything unusual about fixing this transmission that a guy from a place like AAMCO would need to know? Unfortunately, I do not have a trunk full of cash to get this done.

Your advice is very much appreciated.

Thanks,

-Anthony.

Anthony,

I would post on the Cadillac LaSalle website. Not a lot of action here. If that is what you are referring to by the "Tech" section then you probably already have an answer.
